225/40-18 tires on a P5

Anyone running a 225/40/18 on a 18x7.5" wheel either droped or non-droped? I've searched and searched and can't find any info on the board about this. I know it will change the speedometer reading, but what I need to know is if these tires will fit assuming I match the correct offset on the wheel.

Anyone have this set up on their P5? If so please post your (pics)

Why do I need to know, you may ask, cause a 215/35/18 ain't enough rubber for a dude like me (burnout)

It wont work i have a p5 with 18s on it and it is lowered with the pro kit and i had rubbing issues on the rear with the tire hitting the outside fender it was either narro the offset on the wheel or roll the fenders over on the inside i choose to roll the fenders and that was the right desision for sure make sure you go with a 35 series tire or you will have all kind of problems

i have 225/40/18 tires on mine and it is fine. I rolled my fenders though.....the 215/35 and 220/40 both were pretty much the same. if you get the right offset you won't have any problems.

So what wheel and offset do you have w/ your tires Yellowbagged. I'm assuming it's lower than stock, +40 to +45?? Thus the rubbing issues. Or is it because of the wheel width...This s*** is like trying to figure out a rubics cube(bang)

Where the hell is Rishie when you need him.....

im running 225/35/18 with a eibach prokit susp (rims are +48 offset). I only get slight rubbing in the back when i turn REALLY REALLY hard. I would totally recommend it. Ive had these tires (Falken FK-451B) on for a cuple months now and ive only rubbed a couple times.

Rubbing usually only occurs when i put the car to the test, turn really hard, and almost kill myself. heh.

If you wanna run 225/40/18 your going to have to roll your fenders or do something.

So according to the responces to this thread, not many (if any) of you guys are running this series tire, or most of you have your cars dropped on 17's. Do you think a P5 on 18's with a 225/40/18 will look too tall if it is not lowered. Is this redneck or what? I just thought I would buck the trend a little.
Thanks for you opinions (I think....)

words from the wise

Fox,
If you're going to drop your ride w/ 18's on it I would also recommend 215/35/18's. I just dropped my MP5 last weekend and I have a offset of 45 and my backs also rubbed. I actually rubbed one so bad I took a good chunck out of the side wall of my 1 day old tire. I was kinda pissed but it's all good it's only cosmetic and you can't tell unless you look at the tire upclose.

YES if you put 225/ 40 you're going to be quite a bit taller and won't look as good. Depending on your offset you might even get rubbing on your fronts as well. I rolled my backs and I'm fine now. here's a few pics of my ride w/ Pro-Kits and 18" LM1's. See that it sets pretty high off the ground as it is? Not much fender gap either. ANOTHER option is taking your back tires to a machine shop and having them plane off a little of the offset, that way you're tire will be set in a bit more. Pirnana recommended this to me. He said it fixed his issues.

BE CAUTIOUS IF ROLLIN' 3 PEOPLE IN YOUR CAR IT HAS A GOOD CHANCE OF RUBBING!!!

Thanks Crooz. Your car looks badass!! Tight setup. Luckly we have the same color car so I have something to compare to. One concern I have with the 215/35/18 tire is the quality of the ride. Seems like such a small side wall (3" vs. 3.8" on stock) that it would be like riding in a dump truck and you would feel every little crack you drove over. Or does the addition of the Eibach springs help this out????

I'm in the process of looking for at least a +48 offset wheel. I'll try Rishie at ARD and see what he can do.
Thanks

Btw, how did you remove the roof rack channels. Did I see a how-to on this???

Thanks for the props,
To be honest with you my ride is pretty smooth for having it lowered and all. True that the more tire you have on the side will assist a little in how smooth your ride will be. BUT you must understand when you drop your car you're going to be a bit stiffer, I don't think a dump truck is close to the comfort but you do feel bumps that you normally don't feel. I think if you go w/ 40 series you're not really going to be able to tell a difference AND You'll probably have a ton of issues w/ rolling fenders, rubbing and fitment.

This is just my opinion and honestly I couldn't give you the accurate info that you're looking for since I don't use a 40 series tire. I personally like less rubber because it looks cleaner. I personally think if you put 225/40/18's on your car is going to look good but a bit goofy. But you know I could be totally wrong.

About the roof rack. I never had one on my car. I bought it without since I thought it looked cleaner. I DO HAVE A NEW ROOF RACK FOR SALE IF ANYONE WANTS ONE !!! STILL IN BOX NEW/ SEALED!!! PM ME IF INTERESTED!!!

Good luck on your venture FOX

I was wondering the same thing about ride quality because I just bought some 18" rims. I talked to Rishie and he recommended 215/40's. You have a pretty good chance of bending your rim with 35's if you drive anywhere but smooth roads. There's plenty of pot-holes around my house so I'm saving my dough for some 215/40-18 Parada Spec2s. ;)

Here's a pic of Rishie's car riding on 215/40-18's:

I don't think the sidewall looks too bad at all. (shrug)

Those are some really sweet wheels chriscrooze. Probably one of the nicest aftermarket sets i've seen on a Protege.

The side wall does look pretty good on Rishie's ride. I ran comparison specs on the 225/40 and the 215/40 and they is a .1" difference, 3.5" and 3.4" respectively. The 214/40 is 4.6% slower than stock though. The 3" side wall on the 215/35 is just not enough unless, like Natey said, you always drive on smooth ground...and I aint the case where I live for sure:mad:

I check around to see who's got some good deals on 215/40/18 tires.

anyone have info on rishies 215-40-18s... meaning di he have to roll the fenders? what springs is he using...

im installin a prokit and would like to go 40 series versus the typical 35 just to get a bit more sidewall...

any info is appreciated.

thanks
abel.
