2016 Headrest Causing Intense Neck Pain

Just test drove CX5. I loved it. During the test drive I noticed my neck couldn't get comfortable. While driving, the sales guy took out the headrest and put it in backwards!! Omg, no headrest would be safer than that.

I test drove the rav4 and crv after the cx5. I didn't have any issues in those. So anyone that says my sitting posture is wrong can stuff it!

Has anyone found a dealer/factory approved way of addressing this issue? It's the only reason not to go with car.

You could raise the headrest to where it does not touch your head at the same angle. Is the headrest too hard for your head or is it the angle of the headrest?

The only solution is to rotate the seat back far enough back that the headrest clears the back of your head. If that doesn't work for you, buy something else.

Why not buy a Rav 4 or CRV, the two models which were more comfortable for you than the CX-5?

Try searching this forum. This has been covered many times. Bottom line....most people are fine with the headrests, some are not. People have looked at getting a headrest from other Mazdas for example. I haven't seen any really great solutions if your body happens to just not work for this car. I will say that I had this problem at first, but I was able to find a comfortable sitting position and it's never bothered me since. It just took time and lots of trial & error.

Reminds me of the 2010-2012 Accords with their super uncomfortable seats and headrests.

I wonder if the people who are bothered by the headrest are siting with the seat back in a more upright position.

My head doesn't lean on the headrest during driving but, is about an inch from it. Sounds like a seat adjustment issue or a weird neck angle? )

Same here. The front headrests did bother us at first, especially to my wife. But both of us now are getting used to it. For some reason CX-5's front headrests are indeed closer to person's head than other cars. Now I really miss the memory seat feature!

The Smart Start Guide says the front headrests are not adjustable forward or backward due to the "active headrests" feature which will move forward during the collision. But I don't see any wires connected to the headrest. Is it really a true statement?

If Active Headrests work like my current and former Nissan products this is all mechanical within the seat.

im so close to not digging the headrests. its my wife's car, but im on red alert for my cx3 test drive, which will be my other than miata daily.

Yeah no problem with head rest /seating position here on our 2016 cx5 or 2015 3. They're definitely positioned closer to my head while driving (compared to our previous cars) but doesn't bother me in the least
