When I finished engine replacement in my cx9 I had the p061d, after investigation it was improperly seated one of the gray plugs on top of the engine. Not sure if this will help you.
Also, few years ago, I replced a head in Cx-7, right after replacement I got same codes p016, p017, correlation of the cams vs crank codes. Car was running fine. After several days of unsuccessful investigation, I took the timing apart, all timing makes were correct, spot on. At same time the timing chain was kind of tight but loose. It was weird. So I pulled on the chain hard and tensioner popped out one tooth more. This casue good chain tensiont but now the timing was off by a tooth on the crankshaft.
