Sorry if this is in the wrong section but even the dealer isn't sure where the noise is coming from. It has been doing it for about 8,000km. The car has 52,000km and the brakes were just serviced. Have done all oil changes on time. The noise can be heard at about 40 second mark of the video, it's a high pitched metal noise. To me sounds like maybe a pulley for the belt but dealer doesn't think so. Anyone hear anything like this? Please help, it gives my wife headaches and she drives it at least 2 hours a day commuting.

Just sounds like misc road noise from where I sit. Speed? RPM? Any particular gear?

Listen at the last 10 seconds it's a high pitched noise. All gears, seems to be all RPMs and all speeds but loudest after 70km/h. I dont know if I can hear it at idle because at that point I hear the noise even if the car is off and I'm in the house (just makes your ears ring) though last night I think I was hearing it when I just got into th car after 8 hours of work

Actually last 5 seconds. It's just loudest then, it's always present but too low for mic to pick up.

I have seen that thread before and brought it up to the dealer. The excuse I got is that my CX-5 does not fit into the range for the TSB. That TSB only goes up to 2015 CX-5 and my car shouldn't have this issue. So I am at a loss but it's pretty much the same noises.

I don't hear anything from the videos. Dealer should be able to put the car up on a lift and figure out where its coming from. The tranny bearing TSB does not include it because that was fixed quite awhile ago. But it could be another bearing somewhere. Wheel bearing?

That particular TSB goes up to model year 2014, but people with newer models, including 2016 models, have had the issue. Issue apparently wasn't resolved. Didn't really hear anything on your recording. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123848265-New-transmission-at-32k-Miles

I posted a second link where I isolated the noise (it's a 11 second clip) and it starts within the first 2 seconds of the video. https://youtu.be/7z41SeGRUM8

It's a high pitched noise that can be heard over the road noise. The dealer doesn't even want to put it on a hoist, all they want is to road test it, which has been done twice now. I looked again into that transmission thread and I listened to the clip posted there. On that clip it sounded like a really quiet version of the noise I have. It's hard to capture the noise because it doesn't show up on the microphone due to the pitch but that one definitely you can hear it because it has gotten so bad.

Here is a dog whistle video for reference, the noise in my video is similar in pitch, just do you know what you are listening for.

I can't really hear the high pitched sound in all vids posted.

Does your high pitched sound sound like this?

It's very similar, just maybe not as loud. I don't hear the sound that builds up to that high pitched noise but once it hits the high note it sounds about the same to me

Here is another video I took, I don't think you can hear it as well as the other videos but right around 80km/h on the speedo you can start hearing the noise, also uploaded this one as HD

When listening think about when a turbo spools up, but as we know a CX-5 has no turbo

I have the same problem on my 2016. First trip to the dealer did not fix the issue sadly. Mine starts happening when it is warm in the afternoon, after about 15 mins and audible between 25-60mph.

Here is another post about the problem

The whine went away eventually for the OP. I'm gonna take a look at the axle seals next oil change.

I brought the axel seal up to my tech (even sent over the link you gave me) and just got the car back from the dealer today. They kept it overnight and on my drive home (over 1 hour) from work I couldn't hear the noise. It seems to be the culprit. I just need my wife to confirm for me.

They said the seal looked fine when they inspected it but changed it anyways (under warenty) just to eliminate it as a possibility. So it seems that even though visually it looks okay, something is up with it. Mine was passenger front and its FWD 2016 CX-5 GS

Hey. I have a 2016 Cx-5 that has the same problem. The whining noise is audible around 20 mph to 60 mph. At first, I thought the car got louder due to the aftermarket window deflectors. I took the deflectors off, it still persisted. Then I thought it was the road noise because of the tires getting wore out. I took it to the dealer and they said the same thing. However, I tried to listen to it very carefully and realized that it was not the road noise because the noise is not associated with RPM or road surface. It occurred solely according to the speed of the vehicle. I took it back to the dealer. At first, they denied it. However, I insisted that one of the service adviser heard the noise last time so they had to have somebody else test drove it again. In the end, they admitted that they heard it and would like to look further into the problem. They found the noise coming from the transmission a few days later and ordered a brand new transmission for me. The new transmission was installed and the car is now quite again.
I hope this could help you guys who have the same problem.

Another 2016 transmission bites the dust... :(

Would you mind to give us the manufacture date (on the driver's side door jamb) of your CX-5?

Yet Another 2016 transmission bites the dust...

Not today, but last weekend. Brought the car in for 15k mile service. I also asked them to check the transmission because I was having intermittent issues, where going from Reverse to Drive introduced some sort of delay even when the gas pedal is pressed. I could not reproduce the issue every time I try to, but apparently the dealership was able to. They said their tech traced it to an internal transmission problem and they are going to replace the transmission. Hoping to get back the car on Saturday.
Two in a row... :(
