2016 CX-5 Day Time Running Light bulb swap?

Has anyone had any success changing the DRL on a 2016 CX5 to something other than a standard halogen style bulb? It's a 9005 bulb and also acts as the high beam in the housing. I tried a set of LED bulbs but couldn't get them to turn on unless I clicked on the high beams on the steering column...so I bought a pair of resistors that install inline with the bulbs and got the same result, just not as bright....trying to get rid of this crappy looking halogen light .... TIA

I'm no electrical engineer but IIRC, LED's are pretty sensitive to voltage so you can't use them in a system like the Mazda that uses the high beam run at reduced voltage as a DRL.

what about the bright white halogen lights? is that an easy swap? know nothing about this lol

You can change the (projector) low beams to LED or HID bulbs, but not the high beams/DRLs. DRLs work on a lower voltage to get dimmer lights, so it's not enough to light LED/HID setups (and even if it was, that would mean you have high intensity lights on all the time for your DRLs - BAD).
