2008 OEM Navigation System

All Around Hack
:
2008 - Mazda 5 GT
Has anyone looked into feeding the OEM unit a video signal from an external video source? There is a second input that even the manual talks about, but says, "Video Source Input - The external video input terminal is not equipped on your vehicle because it is not standard equipment." OK, but has anyone figured out where the pinout on the back of the unit is for the video?

In a related topic, I saw previous post but no one answered, can the annoying warning be turned off? How about access to nav system while moving?

Just wondering. (shrug)

When I owned my Acura there was a hack to get rid of the legal warning. It was kinda silly as there would just be a blank screen or you could put up a photo...but it would still lockout the nav for the same amount of time as the legal warning was there. As far as using it while moving, I am sure if the VSS wire were removed it would allow use while moving, but then the vehicle location accuracy could be degraded. I installed a Pioneer Avic D3 because of the limitations of the factory system. I can use the D3 while moving no problems. Pioneer has a new unit out that has even more features than my D3.

Further Discoveries/Questions

Well, since getting my Mazda 5 with OEM Satellite I've had a lot of questions about the seeming lack of functions of the unit.

It appears, like I mentioned in my previous post there is a video input available on the unit, has anyone figured this out yet? I went trolling on the Japanese website for the Premacy and it appears to be the same unit, but with a TV, HDD, external input, and a backup camera.

I included a few of the pix... two from the Japanese site, two from my manual, and one of my nav screen.

Any ideas?

Not sure...

Did you modify the 2008 Mazda5 OEM Nav unit, or is the NAV unit in your Speed3 the same as the 2008 Mazda5 OEM? Or did you modify an aftermarket such as the Pioneer AVIC?

Do you have pictures? Sounds cool.

Wow... that looks great.

The maps and Navi look similar. It could be the Denso. The Mazda5 08 & 09 are no longer flip up units, the screen is a touch screen (7") and it is in the center console.

How did you find the RCA inputs for the AUX? Does it work while driving?

not sure how it is connected. The AUX work when I watch TV and DVD and yes it works while driving.

Touch screen is better but I like how the stock unit will fold and hide itself while a touch screen is so screaming "i am here"!

How did you hook up the dvd to the screen? I have an 06 Maz 5 sportnav with the same pop up screen. Any advice would be really welcome! Thanks
