I purchased a cx-9 here a month back or so and it didn't come with a luggage rack system on it. I love the look of it with out it but i am in need of one for an upcoming vacation. 2 adults and 5 kids 8 hour trip! Need some extra space for luggage!!!! Wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an aftermarket one or if there is any market for used ones. Or just a good deal!!!!

Let me know your suggestions!

You might wish to scroll down and see how I solved the same situation with a cargo rack, which is much easier to access, and does not adversely affect your fuel mileage. That thread is entitled "Cargo Carrier."

I did take a look at that but i don't have a trailer hitch! and i have access to a turtle topper to mount to the roof system. Money wise i think it would be a more inexpensive way for me to go.

I installed OEM roofs rails which run front to back and cross bars. I'm pretty sure I got them from Mazdaparts.org. Expect to pay about $400 plus shipping. The installation was very straightforward. If you can put together kids toys or Ikea furniture, you can install the rack. Instructions are included. It's a simple enough installation that you could remove the rack when not needed.

I plan on running low profile permanent Yakima tracks. It requires removing the headliner and installing tracks with Plusnuts. then running yakima towers with cross bars. I can then use my two Skyboxes, bike, ski or any combo. It looks so good when finished. Invisible with eveyrthing else removed. I ran the perm track on my Escape, so strong.

The factory rails used in combo with any other combo is weak by comparison, plus sits so high off the roof.

I've seen hitch mounts baskets mounts as drchuck has. just not for me. It's flexy plus gets in the way of the hatch.

pchrist - my advice is to get factory rails and aftermarket straight crossbars. I have factory crossbars that are curved, so therefore my bike mounts at an angle
