Ya, not much left and they can't take any risks that might not pay off.

(in a Reggie Jackson -Naked Gun- voice) I...MUST...HAVE...THIS CAR!!!!

even though the differences between the current car's interior & exterior are slim at best, the fact that it has variable valve timing makes it deserving of the IX moniker.

Seriously guys... wtf are we all doing on this thing right now? We should be figuring out ways to make shitloads of money. Has anyone had any luck robbing banks? I hear it's not as risky as it seems. Hmm... or maybe money laundering is the way to go.

To anyone who hasn't driven one... put on a nice, conservative (expensive) outfit (but dont' overdo it or it'll be obvious) and head on over to your local mitsu dealership during the least busy time of the day. be sure to park in the back so they don't see you coming! it's not guaranteed, but if you get lucky, you may get a salesman who's bored and actually thinks you might be able to afford one of these beasts. (not trying to imply you can't.... chances are, if you drive a mazda, $30k+ might be a bit out of your league.) anywayz... I pulled this stunt and was able to take one out for a spin. it was just the "basic" version. (not the MR) i don't even want to talk about how F'in awesome this car was to drive. too depressing. not that the msp sucks or anything but... there's getting laid and then there's bangin a supermodel. can't go wrong either way... one's just on a higher level.

its plainly obvious you havent driven the STi.

evo = boooooooost lag. it feels dead and flat below 3500rpm, and never really gives you a great sensation of speed. while the handling is sharper on the evo, the push can be erased on the subie by rolling that nice dccd knob towards the back some.

bah. any STi owner here knows what i'm talking about. thats why you bought it. (headbang)

YOu don't even need to do that. If you matt it while going around a slow corner, that b**** will whip right around on you. I love that. I over did it one night doing a U turn in an intersection and ended up facing on coming traffic. Thank god for street lights. :D

from what i've seen, a good 90% of STi drivers are ham-fisted idiots, and resultantly push the front end into the great beyond every time they turn the wheel. since most people who drive one have the aforementioned 'hams for fists', i merely suggested the dccd shift because it really helps the car rotate.

we constantly keep our project STi at rear lock -- it's just more fun.

that evo is very nice, but i think i'd still go with an sti.

the sti seems like a more reliable, better built vehicle.

never driven an STi... I suppose I should. I just dont' like the way they look for some reason. I know they're ridiculously fast but, to me, the big ass hood scoop combined with the equally large spoiler just doesn't make for an attractive vehicle. but that's just me. while the evo has a spoiler that might be as big, it just seems to flow better with the car.

as far as which car is better in terms of performance... most of the so-called experts (critics) feel the evo is a slightly better car overall. (at least, from what I've read) but let's not make this thread another sti vs evo cuz, in reality, both cars are the s***. clearly there's more than enough of a market for both of them to thrive.

to the guy who said mitsu's going out of business... you might be right. I've read similar stories and most if not all of the reasoning falls into the category of poor management (not to mention that absurd promotion they had a few years back... no interest, no payments for 5 years or some s***) anyway... I remember hearing the SAME BS about Nissa back in the mid to late 90's. I was just a dumb kid back then but always had an affinity for the Nissan brand. Long story short, I dumbed a shitload of money into their stock and, years later, was able to buy a house because of it. I'm not saying Mitsu will follow suit but... though I don't particularly like it, I feel as if the new eclipse will be a big hit. this new evo will just continue the trend. if they can just start making a decent galant and montero they'll be in good shape.

im very young so i dont remember this much but didnt mazda go broke because of there rx-7? thats why ford owns mazda now right? so there may still be a chance for mitsu to sustane(sp?). mitsubishi made nice cars and a few are still nice. i always like the evo even though im an sti freak so i dont want to see them die.

mazda didnt lose their asses with the FD3, they just foresaw the onslaught of warranty claims, and quit making the car available to the US market. the MKIV and Z32 were discontinued because of high pricing, and somehow the VR-4 was still sold alongside the Stealth late into the 90's.

and so was the 90's era japanese sports car scene in the states.

and mitsu never made nice cars. the made cars that could go fast -- and they "corrected" the bad-oil-supply-to-thrust-washer problem that has made the 4G internally flawed for a decade. they have no market here because they have been outdone by honda, subaru and toyota in their key market segments.

i'm rambling now. (fight)

yes if you just look at HP figures, but the full power is availlable really late in the rpm band and doesn't last very long from what i've read

it is fast, but the lag apparently makes it less fun to drive =\ but i've never even driven an EVO so i wouldnt know. i guess even if it has more lag it would still be a blast to drive

FQ-400 = 400HP.

def. faster than the MR.

For those of you guys interested in learning a bit more about the EVO MR FQ-400, you gotta check out this link. Jeremy Clarkson road tests the FQ-400 and then pits it up against a Lamborghini Murcielago at a race track. Pretty much explains all the goods and the bads with that car.

I, for one, still think $90k for an Evo is absolutely rediculous... I'm trying to figure out if I can even afford the Evo IX when it comes out. That car is SO HOT!

6spd transmission ... and i'm sure a few other things. i think it has a bit more power too

They're called vortex generators they create... vortexes? dont know if thats the plural form, but they supposed to make the car more stable i think. mitsubishi's "secret weapon"

^^^MotorTrend, this month's issue. Vortex generators increase the rear downforce by a substantial amount. IIRC 70 PSI of added force from those little shark fins.
