2004 Mazda 6 AT light = clunk sound

I have a 2004 Mazda 6 and lately the car has a rough time when I put it into gear, like a hard clunk sound as if the engine is going to drop out of the car, however, this only happens when the AT light is on, which only happens maybe once or twice a day. If the light is not on, the car changes very smoothly. Any ideas?

The AT light is indicating that there is a problem with the transmission.
The best the thing to do it just take it to the dealer and see if they pull any codes from the computer.

Hi guys, we are having the same problem (kind of!) we have a 2005 mazda 3 and what has been happening once a week for the last 3 weeks is that the transmission (auto) will not click into 4th and the AT light comes on... we have to slow the car to a stop and then go back at through the gears at which stage the AT light will go off and it will go into 4th but then the check engine light comes on and stays on... we have had this checked by mazda twice and their reply is that they can find no error... should we be looking into this further??
