2003 Protege5 back from the brink: budget rebirth.

cars so dope, and i just saw you were part of the surface crew brings back tons of memories from my days on streetsource. much respect for the build on the p5 and that 720. i just started playing with my p5 now and im helping with a ridiculous b2200 build going on. nothing like mini's and p5's, wish i had my old rockered pup to park next to my current car for some shots

quick question on that paint is it low pressure? i know montana makes some sick paint that is matte and low pressure and sprays like a dream and there are a few other brands out there that are producing some high quality street art paint that may be alternative choices if people cant get their hands on All City

I may take it to the forbidden Fantasy show in Peris CA in March, but that's a big maybe on if I'll bring the car. Depends on where my truck is at at that point.

Well if ur ever in northern Cali let me now man would like to meet u

Awesome thread.

I also think I just started following you on Instagram after seeing the picture of your roof on thurrrrr.

Small little update. I got bored and was thinking since my fog lights are completely blacked out now that I'd try and see what it would look like if I used some LED tape behind the fogs so that it would light up around the light housings. I'm really not sure what I think of this but it was something to do on a Saturday night. The biggest issue for me is that the bottom of the light has the mount and the bumper has a cutout there so it leaves a little black notch at the bottom instead of having a full circle. I'm going to rock them for a bit and see how I feel later. if I don't end up liking it it's as simple as turning them off.

Looking great!

I ******* LOVE your car!! Such a big inspiration to skip on spending the $2k+ to have a shop do it and just do it myself!! Oddly enough, before I ever seen this thread, I had seen an Audi painted what looks to be the same color, but his is glossy, and that's the color I have been looking into getting done. Your car has come along VERY nicely and isn't tacky in the least bit. However, I haven't noticed anyone pointing out the one thing that, to me, ties your rims and car color together; your license plate!! It has a similar blue AND purple on it. Just wanted to point that out. Anyways, great job!! And if you have any details at all (that you haven't covered in this thread already) that would be helpful information and tips to someone who is going to paint their car themselves as you have done, I would love the info (pm or post on here)!!

Was wondering...did you paint your door jams as well?? And do you have any tips on painting the roof and hood since you pointed out they are the harder things to paint and all?
Thanks and I will def be keeping up with this post!!

Dude, I am in awe of the paint job. Just looking at it, one would never guess that it was rattle canned. Amazing job.

Thanks for the kind words! It's funny because I was asking an acquaintance about him choosing red interior on his truck (that had no red, but other colors in his paint job) and he said "This from the guy with purple wheels on his car." I just replied "My car matches my states license plate!"

My jambs are still the factory midnight mica blue (as is under the hood), but I actually like the color contrast/combo with the blue. If my stock color was red or yellow I don't think it would look good, but the dark blue and bright blue compliment each other. I do plan on eventually masking and painting/masking and paint removing to clean up the change from the new and old paint so that it looks a tiny bit more "on purpose".

My tip for the roof and hood would be to remove the hood and prop it upright so you have a better angle and probably to paint the roof first so that you're not overspraying on the rest of the paint job later.
