2.5in midpipe?

Hi guys. I'm curious to know more about the midpipe for an N/A p5. From my Ractive 4 to 1 header, there's a flex pipe, then 2.25in pipe, then a resonator, then 2.25in pipe all the way to the back connected to Magnaflow muffler. My question is: Is there more power to gain by adding 2.5in midpipe after header and then leaving the rest of the exhaust at 2.25in? I'm guessing that I have a decent exhaust as is but some of you guys have first hand experience. I also think that a larger diameter exhaust would give me more top end power, but too large would rob me of power on N/A. I don't have the Magnaflow race muffler. I have the street muffler. Would upgrading the muffler help a bit also? I know that the race muffler is more free flowing and louder too. The muffler I have now sounds really nice. It gets louder when I step on it but otherwise it's nice. If you can help me with some answers then thank you very much. Later and peace.

Hi Goza, I have the 2.5" midpipe, with a 2.25" cat-back, and I like it. But unfortunately I cant give you specific numbers to tell you if I gained anything or not. I will tell you that I emailed Tony at AWR about the midpipe maybe being too large, and he said it should be fine. My car is pretty loud now without the 2nd cat, but I like it.

Wish I could be more specific

Hey scorch70! Thanks for the reply. I'm also going to talk to a friend of my who's actually drag racing in Louisianna this week for the National Street car shoot out or something like that. He does all the work on my p5, but I like a few opinions when I have an idea. Anyhow, You've also got some cool mods as well. I hope to see decent numbers when I get my p5 on the dyno this spring, but I think I might be disappointed. I don't know. Whatever I guess. Later and peace.

Let us all know what numbers you pull. I am curious to see if I gained anything or not with the midpipe. I think I will be taking a trip down to Montgomery this summer to try the dyno there.

Dont be disappointed, just mod some more! :)

Hey scorch70. Thanks for the vote of confidence! I'll try not to disappoint. I'll certainly try to post the dyno results. It will be interesting to see what my mods could pull off. Actually, spring is really near! I think in May sometime I'll make the appointment to dyno at my bro's speedshop. I haven't lost a race to any p5's in my city yet. Not even close actually. Well, later and peace!

hey you actually have the same setup I do minus the midpipe. Can I ask, did you do the magnaflow first or the midpipe? If the magnaflow first, how much louder did it get w/the midpipe? I'm happy w/the magnaflow now but I don't want it becoming too much louder than it is now, especially at 3-4k rpm's, where my ears begin throbbing :)

I got the catback first, then the midpipe without cat. My car is unbelievably loud, but part of that is I have a couple of exhaust leaks that need fixing. I like it, but no one else who has ridden in the car does.

If the exhaust gets too loud, just crank the stereo up. :)

Tried that, and the buzzing at 3-4k is overpowering. And I have the stock sub, too!

The only time it gets really annoying is when I do about 80mph on the highway. Otherwise I'm really happy w/the catback...

Yeah, mines always been that way, since i put the header on. Luckily I dont have to commute far, and dont take any long trips in it.
