I changed the oil in My 2008 Sport today for the 1st time. Mileage was 2,209. I used Mobil 1 5w-30 extended performance. The cover under the car should have the filter hole, if that was what it was meant to be, lined up and the job would be much easier. If the little hole near the filter was not meant to be for the oil filter, then why is it there? I have read that some have cut a hole or expanded the hole to make it "cover on" oil changes. Does anyone have pictures of this mod?

I purchased the filters and wrench from Med Center Mazda in Pelham Alabama. Ordered online and here in 3 days and the price was a great deal. You can order 5 filters and get the wrench free. $23.80 plus S/H

Scott.

I remember reading somewhere the hole was for visual leak inspection when it came off the assembly line. It was never meant for oil changes. Even if they put that hole under the cartridge you'll still have to take the cover off to get to the drain bolt.

Yea except I saw the dumbasses at a quick lube place change the oil on a 3 by reaching through that hole. They just let the friggin oil draiin down the pan and out that hole. Then they wiped it out with a rag. Last time I ever took a car I gave a chit about to that place...
