1st Gen Forge BPV

You guys have me heading for the garage to put the stocker back on!!! Damn, I just serviced the Forge, too!!! Anyway, I'll see how it goes.

Now, I'm going to go contra to my own views in one small way -- Darth is right that the Forge, when adjusted properly, will recover quicker and let you come up quicker on boost in the lower gears.

It is more "lively." But it also can be abrupt and can cause drivability issues if not carefully adjusted and maintained. Like so manyt things in life, it's a trade off of competing values.

I prefer the stock BPV because I think I have about all the lively I can handle in gears 1 and 2, being able to break them loose at will. It seems to hold boost as well as, if not better than, the Forge under higher load conditions, while operating very, very smoothly, even if a bit "doggy" in coming up on boost in the lower gears.

So, either the stock or the Forge make good choices, but for different reasons, depending on your priorities. Try it both ways and see which you perfer. But don't junk the stock valve under the mistaken belief that they are all POS leakers. They are not.

The forge works just fine, I've had mine on for about a year and a half and it performs better than my stock unit did, which did not hold boost at 15psi like my Forge does. This is not a "power mod" that some seem to think. If your stock BPV is holding boost great, stick with it, mine wasn't and this did the trick. This will not blow your engine because of too much boost, the ECU is controlling how much boost you get, this is just maintaining the boost level the car should have from the ECU. Most who are blowing up engines have a bunch of other bolts on parts and tunes that cause the problems. People trying to defeat the ECU safeguards that are built in, that's when most people are getting into trouble., IMHO. Blue w/2 shims, and I've tried all the combos, this works for me. I love how these threads cause mass panic among us, haha.

Ok, put the stocker back on and went for a blast. I can't tell a difference one way or the other. I have run the Forge for about a year and a half (blue+2) with no problems. Oh well, I run around with the stocker on for a while and see.

I like the tuneability of the Forge and its immediacy, as has been stated. I was having issues with my stock valve. I run the harsh red spring in mine, which requires a touch of driving adjustment as, if you bang off the throttle clumsily, it can send a nice shockwave through the driveline and make you look like a fool. However, the bottom end grunt/throttle response tradeoff is worth it.

Drove to LA and back with the stocker. It seemed more mellow, still fast, but mellow. Also, the pipe-tip doesn't have a ton of soot on it, like when I had the Forge on. Anyway, just my impressions.

I just got my Forge on yesterday (blue spring + 2 shims) and it definitely seems more harsh on low speeds and shuts hard when driving the car hard. With the stocker, my boost was very inconsistent. In 4th-6th.. I'd usually end up somewhere in between 13psi - 17psi and it'd go from 15 to 16 back and forth constant while WOT in 5th.. But I noticed earlier with some testing that with the forge.. it holds 15psi and just stays there and doesn't move until I reach higher RPMs and it tapers off to 13. So far.. I do like the Forge but again, I've only been driving with it for one day.

My only other mods are a Cobb SRI & Cobb TIP.

I used to run blue with 2 but went to blue with 1 because of daily driveability. My stocker must have been a leaker because I noticed a big difference when I put the forge on.
