The only thing I know to do is to send a fax back to that machine telling them of the problem.
Worked for me.

I work for the cellular industry and I can assure you that that is really the only option unless your celular phone has the ability to restrict calls then you can put that # in it as a restricted incomming call but it will only work when the Caler ID is present

Well if they don't answer your requests...
If the fax on the other side receives faxes as well, go to staples and pick up a stack of black pages (100% black).. and fax about 20 of them to that fax.
Also, feel free to paste the phone number of the fax, maybe one of us can do a reverse lookup to an address and then to a voice line?

HAHAHAHA...thought about it already...I had 4 different numbers on my phone with only one digit off...I faxed a message to all of those faxes but they never go through..I hate the thought that I will have to change my phone number...that is ridiculous..isn't less of a hassle to block those numbers??

Just tape a few of the black sheets together, feed it through the fax machine and tape the two ends to make a loop. Then you will have an endless loop of black pages. This works very well for harrassing junk faxes. Junk faxes are illegal depending what state you live in and if you can determine who the sender is you can sometimes collect $300 per incident.

If they are one number off, then they are going through a switch board. do a reverse lookup on numbers close to it and you should find a business number. Call them and inform them.

post the numbers and I (or someone else) will find them. Like Chris said, they're running of an internal commercial exchange.

A similar thing happened to me. My Dad's mechanic, who happened to work at the county Sherriff's department called me three times to tell me my car was ready (my Grand Marquis) but I missed all three times and didn't know who it was. When I tried to call the number back none of the numbers went through.

Lets say they ended in 4013, 4017, and 4009. I just took ten minutes on a reverse lookup webpage and finally found a listing for the Sherriff's Dept. It was something like 4000 or 4030. Then I called that number and the operator put me through.

when I first got my cell.....well here in our little town back then there were only two exchanges (the first three numbers of your phone number)...and they were one number different. if you changed that one number....my cell number was the same as the AUTOZONE.....I kept getting calls for them.....and since at that time I paid for my air time...it cost me money for wrong numbers!! that pissed me off....the company changed my number at no charge.

Kinda offtopic but the best cell incident that I ever had was I get a call from a cell phone that says it was my brother. I answer it and the people wont talk to me. I call up my brother's home phone and ask him if he had his phone swiped (someone messing with programmed numbers and called me). Well, he hadn't had that phone for over a year, and on top of that he never had my number programmed into the his phone. Add to that, it was a new number that I had just recieved, and had programed all of my old caller ID numbers into it. I tried to call the poeple back, but they would talk to me. It would be like you moving into a house, get a new number, miss dial a call, and have the other persons caller ID recognize the number as someone that they know.
