118.38whp N/A P5 dyno

My goal is to get 130 to the wheels.

Next on the wish list are custom cams and a MPI piggyback.

With the piggyback you'd probably reach around 125whp. With both cams and piggyback..I would say 130 is a very good goal and estimate. Good luck man.

A single runner IM should be your next mod to nab the best #'s

I need to talk to Big Tim about MPI tuning. Emellio offered me his MPI for a really good price.

I was also thinking about Duane's (ddogg777) 626 manifold but I still haven't seen anybody post success with one.

You should be able to get 20+ whp out of one. If you buy Duane's I'll help you drop it in. Combine that with outlaw racings thermal spacer for even better #'s.

BTW, I'll be bolting my cylinder head in this weekend. Once that is in I'll be starting up the P5 for the first time in EEK!, a year!

That will be sweet to see her running again.

with cams good gas and good mpi tuning im sure you would be pretty happy. Ever though about getting the head shaved to up the compression a little more?

The 626 manifold might increase you peak output, but you'll lose midrange power on a NA car. I don't think it's worth the extra few HP up top to lose a lot in the middle where you need the power for daily driving.

What model dyno were you guys using?

We have almost the exact same mods. I've got a Racing Mazda 4-2-1 header and RR UDP as the only bolt on difference. My last dyno session was on a Mustang dyno. I had 125 at the wheels. I've done some heavy porting on my head and intake manifold which probably accounts for the main difference between us not factoring altitude and weather. I'm getting cam gears next as it seems a few people have been seeing 7-9whp gains with them.

btw mustang dynos are said to be very inaccurate.

Yea...I dynoed my previous motor on a Dynojet. All the mods were the same...even has the same head on it. Got 127whp out of that one.

so you think that IM is the way to go? How would that respond in an NA application. It seemed to respond well under turbo, but what about NA?

You would lose midrange power. You might gain a few HP on the top end, but I don't think it's worth the loss of drivability. You'll be taking more HP away from the midrange then you add up top.

i had an integra rs 1994 and of my knowldge , if you want a good NA setup you need to start with the traditionnal :
intake,
headers ( 4-2-1, IMO give the best power curves)
exhaust

next the thing i had done gave a s*** load of power :

msd ignition
timing advance
ported head
shaved head
after market wiring (important since you got more current in them )
engine boring
cams
ecu

this gave me about the same power ( ++++ shitload more torque)
as a integra type -R

since all the bolt-ons were insalled by be i only had to pay for the engine building and they installed the cams.

total cost : 3750 $can

i had more stuff installed but those were for handling and braking..

so basicly it cost a little less than a turbo setup but also give less power
( but a real NA setup is fun to REV in the high)

IMO i prefer a fast high reving NA car, but turbo'ed are impressive.. in oth setup you will end up paying a lot.

If you are going to go single runner, you should consider going for quads... unfortunatly it'll mean you will need management to get the most out of them and tune for Throttle Position instead of map/maf.

Consider getting yourself a stand alone ems, the gains on NA are significant and well worthwhile.....and on its own it'll allow you to get the most out of what you have already got.....

you guys have 94 pump gas? Good tuning with 94 using a stand alone ems will probobly get you as much power as these expensive n/a bolt ons. Your stock ECU maps are for old 87 octane.

thats hurting. you should buy a bunch of ethenol from a hardware store and just mix your own. works fine ive been doing it for years using 94+ 4-5 litres of methenol or ethenol whatever i have lying around. The corrosive properties are not a problem, people that say they are have never done it. Most stock fuel systems can even handle e85, or at the most need a few small things.
