The code came and went. As a precaution, I took it into local dealer. Dealer says tranny fluid is very dirty and their 'system' reccomends flush. The dealer is also quick to point out that this will either prolong or acclerate transmission failure. Then they quoted me a replaced transmission cost @ $5500.

Two months ago (2700 miles) I was at same dealer and after a 99 point inspection, nothing about tranny fluid was mentioned.

This whole time, the car shifts both up and down smooth as glass.

So, as the second owner with 105,000 miles and no tranny fluid service history I am planning on a few drain and refiils over time as a flush seems potentially problematic.

Any thoughts??

Thanks for your time!

When they say flush all they do is add a can of transmission flush into the fluid and run the car for a few minutes then they start the fluid exchange. It is similar to the can of motor flush that you add to the motor and run the engine for a few minutes before changing the oil and filter.

Not according to my dealer, kornholio.
They claim that they use a special suction device to extract the fluid.
I have no evidence to doubt that.
BTW, my local dealer charges $140 for it.

I have had it done twice already, following 30K/+15K process.

At 105K, I would agree that you should just do drain and refill several times.
Flushing might stirr up debris and cause failure soon after.

Ceric i think that you misunderstood me. The first part that they do is to put in a can of transmission flush which is about 11 ounces. Then they run the engine for 5 minutes, then after that they use the transtech machine which first sucks out 2 quarts then adds 2 quarts they do this until the fluid comes out red through the suction phase. I was watching them do this when i had my transmission service done at the dealer. They are not like the previous dealer i went to who decided to cover all of the windows. I paid 149.99 for the service to be done.

Got the AT light to come on again while I was cruising at 60mph. Only thing I noticed was the speedometer jumped to 80 mph then back down. Then car continued like nothing ever happened. No lurch.
So my hopes are that only a speed sensor needs to be replaced. Preferably an external one!

That makes sense. I was not there to watch them do it.

so it is an error code from speed sensor inside the tranny. Is this worth trying to replace???? 10 hours of labor plus sensor, fluid and whatever else pops up

Transmission fluid is one thing, the speed sensor issue might not unrelated.
However, change the fluid first. Then move on to the sensor if problem remains.

Replaced sensor. As it is magnetic, it did have metal shavings on it. Just don't know from where or for how long.
Vehicle continues to drive well. Keeping fingers crossed.
