I recently got the call to detail an 06 MZ3 Sedan for the new GF of a repeat customer. I've done his Daily Driver, his old project Mustang and his ex's car.
When I got there, they told me that the front end had recently been repaired. I inspected the hood and saw the typical body shop buffer halos. When I clayed the car, there was red oversprall ALL OVER pretty much the entire front half of the car except where they resprayed it. Not sure why/how, most of it came out though with clay + buffing. It did not photograph well (the red overspray) as the paint has red pearls in it up close.
I asked if she wanted the door moldings removed. She looked at my car in person (had seen pics of it online) and decided that the Mazda3 looks better with no moldings (As do I) so I debadged (the side moldings and the "3" on the trunk) and removed the moldings
Enough talk, here are the pics:
When I got there:
You can see the buffer marks from the bodyshop
After the foam wash, clay and re-wash
Here's the top of the trunklid before:
And after
Moldings off the car, you can see the adhesive residue
Up close
Rear pass door done (left), front pass untouched (right)
Both doors done
All done:
Thanks for looking!
All evidence of moldings all gone
