It really does depend on what you read. There is still so much research being done. One thing to note is that while DU is 40% less radioactive than natural, most places on earth don't have hundreds of tons of natural uranium laying around (like there are in places like Bosnia and the Gulf now).

It's also radioactive. Not as much as "regular" uranium, but still radioactive. According to the UN they are illegal and classified as WMD. So our use of them against Iraq is quite ironic, at best.
