toddler was killed in driveway when the father backed out of the driveway in a SUV. i know this isn't the first case.

stop ******* getting SUVs fuckit! ppl that get SUVs should goto hell because;
1. they are using up more oil that other people depriving our future generatiion of this natural resource.
2. they are fucktards if you buy one to drive around in the city and because all those other soccer moms have one and you need to get on to be in the IN crowd
3. if you are too fat and obese to fit into a regular sedan
4. if you think bigger is better then you must have a small penis or small boobs.

It is not necessarily the fault of SUVs or the father that killed the toddler, but the person who allowed the toddler to crawl in the driveway in the first place when knowingly there will be cars backing in and out of there.

I hate SUVs too. Not only because they're huge, gas guzzlers, and made for the obese population, but because they handle like boats, and they only come in automatic transmission.

Poor kid, definitely did not deserve this type of neglect from his/her parents :(

this happens in minivans, vans, trucks and Cars too
thus nobody should drive and we should all ride donkeys to work

some people drive SUV's because they need a vehicle that can tow somthing heavy
for any other reason than that I dont think they are really needed, most vans can cary more s*** on the inside than an SUV.
Escalades, Hummers and other pieces of s*** like that are just gay, all show
I doubt anybody buying an H2 is going to use it to tow anything

man this sucks, i have a niece and a nephew, that age oh man :(
yeah i read about this happening before, its just incredibly sad.
for the most part i do hate SUV's but hey my stepdad has a 4runner and so does my uncle why? b/c they actually need it. but in most cases the reason to get one is b/c it looks nice for people, especially the high end models and what are you going to do about it? at least they are looking at different set ups like hybrids and stuff

not everybody who buys an SUV buys them for show. MY father has a Blazer ZR2 and its a blast. We off-road with it, pull the boat with it, and the 4 wheel drive is a savior in the northeastern snow where the only alternative would be something like a subaru or a 4wheel drive pickup. You can't put all SUVs together in one group, they vary greatly, from vehicles like ZR2s to Navigators. I agree that vehicles like the escalade and navigator are fairly useless, but that doesnt apply to all SUVs.

ive got money the father will sue the car company because of "faulty design that didnt allow enough safety precausitions"

Oh, please! Yes, let's all get in our Toyota Prius's and meet at the park, where we can all hug a tree, sit around in a circle holding hands singing "Kumbaya".

I find it interesting that "eco-friendly" politicians like John Kerry go around spouting off about wasting gas and depleting the ozone, while flying around in his custom 757 during the campaign, a Lear G-5 while on vacation, and keeping 7 homes heated and cooled all year long when no one is there but "the staff".

Then there are groups like the ELF, or Environmental Liberation Front. You remember, the group who set fire to several dozen Hummers, causing more environmental damage by setting them ablaze then all of them would have produced over ten years of driving.

Thank You, but **** You. I'll keep my SUV, and you'd better be ready to get the hell out of the way if you pull out in front of me!!

I hate SUV's because they are the ones that normally cause me to gain unnecessary paint chips and block my view of the traffic light. I also hate them because most people I know that have SUV's and trucks don't actually have a use for them.

All SUV's should have a sweeping bar and flashing lights that read. "I'm backing up little kids beware, I'm too stupid to get out and look behind my very large truck."

you know, in Young Drivers, they teach you to do a quick walk around of your vehicle for a reason, to inspect everything. IE if something is ******, or if there is something precious behind it...namely a kid. Also, people should back into thier driveways, and pull out, much easier to see things, and then less poor inoccent kids wouldn't be killed

My Godson is 2 and it would be unreal to have something happen to him like this. I could not imagine the grief my friend (his mom) would be in if something happened to him, especially caused by her. I hope the parent can find peace after this mistake. That sucks :(

That must be some thing that them non americans learn. Didn't you know that our driver's ed programs' standards sucks balls? - I feel really bad saying that too, since my grandfather used to own a bunch of driving schools in Ohio.

man **** all you suv haters... my buddy's machine is f-in huge. when me and 6 of my buddies go backcountry snowboarding, guess what the only thing we fit in is... Excursion XLT. let's see your p5 haul 7 boards, 7 pairs of snowshoes, 7 backpacks packed with survival gear, 14 pairs of boots, ice hooks, and a snowshovel... PLUS 7 people. when your p5 does that i'll buy 2. :)
4" lift with 32" tall tires. daily driven.

dude, that sounds like an awesome trip!! Take me!! We'll take 2 P5s and I'm sure our collective mpg will be better than for one Excursion :D

yeah, it's pretty awesome. we try to do it once a year. it's pretty expensive. been going for the last 3 years. mostly utah or colorado. LONG drive, but worth the trip. i doubt that a p5 will hold up as well in 3" of snow on the road...

I think he's trying to point to people that use it as a suburban status symbol. I dont see a problem with responsible drivers that use them for recreation, utility, construction or if they have large families. I knew at least a few women that had husband's buy them for their wives just so they can feel "safer". Those are the same ones that would be talking on a cell phone while running over a stopped motorcycle rider at a light because they "just didnt see them" (thats already happened here). My opinion (not that it matters), I think people should take a special course just to drive one of those things. You pass the course, you get to keep em. Then again, most drivers with regular cars can't drive very well either.

As much as I despise my wife's Explorer, she feels much safer in it than she has in any of the sedans/station wagons/minivans that we've owned prior. And that gives me a comfort level knowing that she feels safer driving, especially when she has our three kids in the back.

And I will also say that its a lot less distracting having the three of them spread out in the back of her car, than when all three of them are sitting in the back seat of my P5 irritating each other. It all comes down to the driver and making sure that their attention is focused where it should be.

Sure I'd love to see my wife in something like an MSP. I'd also love to see her pose for a picture just like Christine in her avatar. But I realistically know neither is going to happen!

did i mention anything about a toyota prius??????

i think this is the quote i like best from your post "Thank You, but **** You. I'll keep my SUV, and you'd better be ready to get the hell out of the way if you pull out in front of me!!"
you know. america really needs a few more ppl like you, its barbaric ppl like you that cause nations to goto war, look at all the wars that america has started in the past 15 years.

anyways i do hope that you do not run over your kids in the driveway.

But doesn't it bother you that it ISN'T SAFER? I can understand wanting your wife to be comfortable driving her car. My wife is the same way. I guess I would only feel comfortable knowing that my wife and kids were ACTUALLY safer, not that she FEELS safer.

Not trying to be a dick about it, just seems strange to me.

All this statement shows is that you are possible young and definitely ignorant.
I've driven small sporty cars all my life but I have an SUV as well for the basic reason that it was the right size to fit me, my wife and my two kids and their car seats and still let me load up the back with supplies from Lowe's to work on the house with. Does it handle like crap, of course. Do I like having to drive it around all the time, no. I want some thing that handles but right at this point in my life this is the perfect car for what I need it to do.
The real problem from that news story is that the driver didn't take enough precautions to check around the car before leaving. I made sure to put a back-up sensor system on mine just so I could have something to let me know if there is anything behind me or to the sides and I always make sure that I know where my kids are when I leave.
