What have you done to your Miata today?

Hooray head gasket time!

Any damage to bearings given that it may have been pumping coolant around?

I just ordered a set three days ago. It's amazing it take so long for them to ship (despite showing as being in stock). Hopefully they will be waiting for me when I get home in February.

None that's immediately evident. It didn't have any rod knock even at higher revs last time it was run a couple weeks ago, getting from the trailer to the workshop. I'm hoping it's just a matter of a head gasket / warped head / stretched head bolt, and not a cracked head. That would suck mightily.

On that front, I've got ARP head studs in to facilitate reinstallation (and so I don't have to replace them practically ever again, and they cost about the same as a set of head bolts from Mazda).

I've also got the rear-suspension back together after swapping in mo-betta control arms (had a couple that were tweaked), and ready to go to trim the fenders this weekend. THAT should be exciting! (boom03)

Oh! And I finally got to the point of being able to sit in it and make race-car noises! (burnout)

aaaand started getting the electronics box back together. The battery is in and hooked up (and back on the battery tender), the ECU will go in sometime this week. Not like it really matters, the car's not going anywhere for a little while, so this is just to keep me busy at this point. I will also get the doors painted if / when it warms up in the coming weeks. It's supposed to, so we'll see.

Just by chance I checked the CarbonMiata site on Sunday, found out mine were shipped on 30 November so had already arrived at home. That was about two weeks from ordering to shipping. Of course when I asked Robyn about them she wasn't sure...

Started playing with putting the data-logger / gauge cluster 'phone' back on the car, along with running power to it through a motorcycle USB power converter (gray box):

I *may* center up the phone mount once the shift-lights are in their final resting place & wired up, but for now I'm good with it being out of the way.

Before and after. They needed some additional trimming and cleanup with various cutting and grinding wheels & stones and some edge trim, but I think the results are going to be good. Not spectacular looking by any means, but a show car this ain't.

Cool Andrew!

On my way to work this morning, this happened.

Tractor trailer tapped me in the qtr and sent me for a spin. Thankfully I came to a stop on the shoulder of the highway and a couple of feet away from the concrete barrier. Had I hit it, I would have probably bounced back into traffic. Driver stopped along with three other motorists who couldn't believe that the car held up the way it did.

Truck driver said he was ok and my wife picked me up and took me to the ER to get checked. Had a nice egg on my head from hitting the frame top and my left shoulder/neck and knee are sore. Def. aggravated from the damage from my accident a few years ago.

Sorry about your accident Jeff. Hope your aches and pains get better soon.

Did the truck driver say he didn't see you? That's pretty bad but as you said, it could have been worse.
