Ok, my 06 Mazda5 got a CEL about a month ago and I checked my gas cap to make sure it was tight. CEL eventually went out but came back about a week ago. I'm going to borrow a code reader from AutoZone and pull the code(s). Does anyone here know if the socket for the reader is located somewhere below the steering column?

The data port is an opening located lower left of the steering wheel. Easier to see the port if you have the driving side door open.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that AutoZone no longer pulled codes for free. I would have to buy a scanner from them. The only shop around here that will scan for free is AMMCO and I don't know if I trust them. Anywhere else will charge me $80.00+ just to scan it. Now that is a scam. Maybe I should just fork over the 60-70 bucks for an inexpensive scanner.

If you have an O'Reilly, they let you use the code reader for free....around here, anyway.

Ok, I spent 50 bucks on a code reader. I pulled one code - P0126 Coolant Temp Insufficient Stable Operation. I've been reading around on the forum and it looks like a bad thermostat? I guess that is better than a bad O2 sensor or PCM. Is there a DIY posted here on how to replace the thermostat on a Mazda5?
