What have you done to your P5 today?

seems to be. picture heavy seems even worse.

just try to post in the sick ride thread.

edit: thats it im done.

Thanks for the info Lewis, and yeah he thought i said 626, i was talking about the 6. Well i guess im not goig to buy those then. SOO what should i buy to redo my breaks (im at 83k) i think their stock, and ive had the car for almost 3 months i think now. Can anyone recommend me any good parts for a p5?

How about this setup:

heres the for sale parts from the link for my p5:

Protege MP3, Protege 5, 2001 2003 Protege ES

Front Brake Pads (Sold as Pairs)
Posi Quiet Ceramic - $30.00
Axxis Deluxe Plus - $32.00
Axxis Ultimates - $49.00

I've been very happy with the Posi Quiet Ceramics and the Centric rotors. I agree with Lewis7789 as well on the slotted/cross drilled. Unless you plan to track the car often, they just look pretty and offer no real performance gains for dd use.

Couple of pics I took yesterday of my current light issue. Didn't fix it last night as I didn't have time and I have the wife's car today so tonight or tomorrow I'll be swapping parts. First pic is with hi-beams on and second is with them off....

Hell, they really don't offer any gains on tracked cars. 75% for show.

/end thread THE Phen has spoken. lol

Really? I figured they would be more functional than that for tracked cars in the form of heat dissapation...

Most good rotors for hard core track cars tend to be different materials anyway. Look at F1 cars... carbon ceramics. No slots, no holes, just pure unobtainium.

I should be a little more specific though. A track car that any one of us on this forum could build... no significant difference that changing pad composition couldn't fix or make worse.

they actually are worse for a DD then OEM style rotors...less surface area=less stopping power

This too.

Plus, going bigger brakes without re-proportioning the system can be devastating to brake performance as well. If your car is designed for 11.7" rotors, and you go up to 12.5" rotors, chances are your brake bias could have changed towards the worst. So many factors to consider with upgrades.

Exactly....form > function

lol at unobtanium and your point is exactly why I won't upgrade. Easy to upgrade just calipers/pads but when you factor in everything else to do it 'properly'......well I'll just stick with what I got and spend the money elsewhere.

Cleaned up my headlights this past weekend with the 3M kit I purchased of Amazon. My headlights weren't bad at all. I would've rated them a 7 out of 10 for it being an '03 model. But now they're 10 out of 10. I knew I should of taken pics of before and after. This was my fourth set of headlights with the 3M kit and the results get better and better as I familiarize myself with the entire process.

thanks, CTt3P5 and Lewis7789. I will look into those components, and see what Im going to end up buying.

Also, i think it would be a wise choice to bleed them too. Or no?

&
I usually like learning new things and finding ways to work on my cars myself, but I'll be honest I don't know sh!t when it comes to brakes. SO, if i take it to a shop/mech./dealer w/e, how much should it run me to Change out the pads (and possibly rotors), plus bleeding.

Never a bad choice to bleed them. Depending on the mileage, I'd replace the fluid too. Never a bad thing to do.

theres no need, or benefit to beelding your brakes when you change pads and rotors. The only time you need to bleed the brakesis when your replacing components (lines, calipers) or when your doing a full flush

and today i did this

to my oil feed line....i almost took a bat to my windshield i was so pissed. thats the last thing keeping me from driving my car

Oh heavens no, don't go to a shop for your brakes on your P5. You'll get *****. They really aren't difficult on the P5. The rear is a b**** if your allen bolt is stripped like mine were. And I strongly suggest bleeding them while you're in there. There are How-To's on all of the items we just covered or PM me and I can give you some help.

edit- Simon is right, you don't need to bleed the system if you're not opening the system. But I like to bleed the lines while the caliper is easily accessable and a friend is nearby. It doesn't hurt.

Phen- don't you have slotted rotors on your MSM? ;)

Yep, and they don't do a damn bit of good. Just got a helluva deal on them...

...that being said, the Hawk HP+ pads are so good that I still have a bruise on my forehead from hitting the windshield while bedding the brakes in.

Well, never got a quote from a shop to do mine but I paid under $200 for parts to replace rotors and pads at all four corners. But I'll agree with Evan (Lewis7789) that you'll get ***** at a shop. I'm shopping now for my sis-in-laws Pilot and looking at $250-$280 for front rotors and pads for both axles....dealer wanted over $450 to do the work....

well first things first..parts

Since i just need to update the brakes, and on a budget (who isnt these days haha) can someone help me put a decent parts list together, since those brembos are a bit much.
I really haven't had a chance to fully inspected the current setup since buying the car, but the reason I'm making an effort to do work on the current setup is because recently, when i brake, i hear a noise (not 100% sure but) probably coming from the back. And i believe it might be the pads being worn [but no vibrations so rotors should be ok].

SO i thought if you guys can help me find a great deal on pads and rotors, nothing crazy, just good quality recommended stuff,

Like the 'Posi Quiet Ceramic - $30.00'
