Alrite forum.
U gotta help me with this.
I posted a thread before abt my suspension is so fcked up.
I have a 2 in drop(progress springs) on stock struts. Low profile tires with sparco rims(215/35/18)
What shud i do
1.) get new stock struts(all four $245) with stock height springs and install regular tires($300). If so wat springs shd i get coz i know stock struts cant handle the drop.

2.) buy tokico blue struts(all four $379) and keep the same springs(progress) and keep the low profile tires.

3.) buy tokico blue struts with a higher springs($90) so i cud fit a regular tire coz i thnk i dont have space for regular tires with 2 in drop.
also i dont really care abt the looks. I want a smooth ride and abt the stiffness, i dont race, handling is not a thng i really care abt.

Help me forum, im abt to spend a gud amount of money and i want it to be worth every penny.

You need new rims, you can't just get higher springs and put a bigger tire on.

15" rims would give you the most comfort, but you can probably get stock 16" rims cheaper in the for sale section, maybe even with tires. You can probably get some used stock springs pretty cheap as well and then you should be good to go. Unless your struts are shot too. You can then sell your 18" rims and progress springs and get your money back.

But why not, y do i need new rims. I love my custom rims, i wud never sell them. there so many other people in this forum with 17, wat abt them. Everyone has a crappy ride like me. I dont thnk so. I need a better answer, no offence dermen.

need more info.

what width and offset are your wheels, and what size tire are you running?

what size tire do you want to run?

You should be able to run an OEM equivalent diameter tire with a 2" drop unless its a weird offset, but if you want MORE tire height, you probably want to go with a smaller wheel. I dropped down to a 16" for this reason (among others).

also, just a side note, typing in ebonics makes reading your posts really painful.

I want a smoother ride, if the tires make a huge difference which my mechanic says it will and the othere says not really. So i want forum to tell me if tire is a big issue or suspension or both.

if your shocks are blown, your ride will be s***.

if your wheels are heavy your ride will be s***.

if your tires are super low profile your ride will be s***.

if your running tires with stiff sidewalls your ride will be s***.

please see the information I requested above.

You said you didn't care about looks, only ride quality. Smaller rims have more tire sidewall to help absorb bumps.

That 215/35/18 is def. not helping your ride quality. If your number goal is ride quality, sell the 18" wheels and go with 16's. That will allow you to run a 205/50/16...still low profile but a much better ride than your current rubber bands.

To fit on a 3rd gen Protege, you pretty much have to stick with the size that you have on an 18" wheel or else you're going to get rubbing in many places.

That's one reason many Protege owners on here don't go with 18's. That and the fact that the brakes look to be the size of a CD behind such huge wheels.

My suggestion. 17's, 215/45-17's, S-techs and Tokico Illuminas, and have at it. However, my suggestions are typically geared toward practicality and generally don't meet the new generation of Protege owners' approval.

even if you raise the car, you don't want to put thicker tires on a rim that big. it'll rub when you turn, throw your speedo off, and ruin your fuel economy.

thats MSP stock so its always a good bet, and honestly, I prefer the 225/50/R16 option, but my setup preferencess are geared more toward handling than anything.

new generation... LOL. damn kids.

wat is the stock? 17" or 16".
Even if i pick the car up(regular springs) it will get rubbing. I will have more space?

16's are stock on a P5.
17's are stock on an MSP.

Lifting the car on 18's... you could still have some rubbing, but the car will look retarded like that anyway. But there are lots of factors going into the rubbing with 18's. Specifically... offset of the wheels. Several people on here have run 18's on a P5 successfully. One that comes to mind is altspace. He had 18's on his P5 when he had it and they looked awesome.
