Time for a "new" Car

Ive decided that i am tired of my jeep and want to get a "new" car I have it down to two choices.

#1 MK IV GTI 1.8t
#2 Protege5

I dont need 4 doors, I just like the way the P5 looks. Just need something that is reasonable fast, good aftermarket, good dd and will keep me competive in autox

I know this is a mazda message board so ide expect things to be a bit biased, but given those two choices what would you pick?

Then the p5 isnt for you. Great car, handles very good just isnt fast. You can make it go fast withthe aide of a turbo but thats about it.

If i could find a good SVT contour ide get that in a heart beat, but i cant find one

you and me both... stick the escape 3L block in it and slap a tubro on top of it with a quife, mirko lip, and some 19s on it all on a silver frost svt contour!

Edit: like this

i think you mean mkIV GTI the mkV has a 2.0 turbo. i used to drive a mkIV jetta which has the same suspension and ive got to say the pro5's handling is twice as good as the jetta's which should be very similiar to the GTI's. the steering feel on this car is absolutely magnificent. i always thought that the i wouldnt be able to beat the feel and confidence in the corners that i had in the jetta till i drove this car. only thing you would be giving up in would be something like 50 horsepower. I would say that the GTI would be more competitive at the autocross event but then again the pro5 is easily turbo'd with the mazdaspeed kit and can make similiar horsepower as the GTI. Stock to stock id say go with the GTI if they are simiraly priced. both awesome cars so it will be hard desicion. but if all you want is speed with out sacrificing great handling im going to have to commit treason and say go with the GTI

s2000 is only 5 bucks more a month over the masdaspeed protege and that was only 10 bucks more a month over my old p5.

they are about 30-40 more a month for me, plus i want to keep the cost of the car under 9k

[ot] its really nice to see so many people on late so late at night [/ot]

When I got my P5 and got quoted for insurance, every place quoted me more for my P5 than my Jeep.
A modified 6cyl, 4x4, convertible is cheaper to insure than a 4cyl, 4 door, "reliable" car (in my area anyway). Their reasoning being that there are more on the road and have had more claims in the past year than Jeeps. It was only $10 more a month. . but still. wtf?
Volkswagon parts are crazy priced IMO. P5 = reasonable price/great value for what you get.
You keeping the Jeep too?

Tough choice man... The 6 spd trans on the focus is a nice little option tho.... But the GTI seems like it has a nicer interior and will be faster... And the p5 has better styling and very good handling.

get the vdub.

i love my p5 but that p5 looks pretty base to me. meaning no abs, no sunroof, no leather. and trust me leather is nice lol. turbos are always fun.

there are alot more parts available for the golf also so you can do alot with it. options are endless.
