Time for a "new" Car

Try and find a Nissan 300Z TT. I have found in the past for them to be under 9k but are hard to find. Nice car if well maintained.

You know i really like my protege5 but if i was actually putting it up against a mark IV gti i would definitely choose the gti and before you all disagree---

the vw has much better aftermarket support
it will go faster stock
the interior is wayyy nicer and the seats are beautiful
vw's have a much better "club" support.. you can go driving down the road in one and people will wave to you just cause they drive a vw

and before you say "why don't you buy one then" i personally really like my protege and its MY car so i love it but if its pitted against the vw just on a rating basis the vw is a better car

You are right on all but one point. The club support. I have many P5 owners wave to me. Second, What do you think this is? This is a "club" and we support people (for the majority of the time).

You are right on all the other points though. For me it would still be a tough choice but I would got the the VW because of the aftermarket. I would not buy a Focus though, my brother had one and dependability was 70/30 every day. 70 working, 30 dying in the middle of an interstate.

^True^. He would need to have that car in a garage for an extended amount of time. The purchases of hoses, clamps, turbo, EM, etc... That will take a bit of time even if bought complete from a member of the forum the shipping, installing, tuning, retuning, blowing something apart because you forgot.... All takes time.

That last part is a joke. If you have time then turbo the P5, if not then my recommendation still stands.

Personally I like the GTI CAUSE ITS GOT BOOST! And the anterior is nice. However, I've heard bad stories that it gets crazy electrical problems. Wouldn't it cost more insurance for the VW because it's boosted?

My p5 has never broke down on me so far. It died because one of my battery terminals were rusted out, but other than that it's great. I have 120k miles but I am looking for an upgrade.

My second vehicle was a MKIII GTI. It was a fun car, but it was a nightmare at the same time. I was fixing it every other week. I lost 5th gear once because of a plastic clip in the shift linkage. I had to order the part and it took over a month to get here. Sure there is a large aftermarket following, but that comes at a higher cost.

A couple of my friends own MKIV's ... they are cool cars, but they are pigs, don't handle very well (stock), and the 1.8t is complete garbage. If you were talking about any year R32, or the newer 2.0T, you would have me sold already. I can also add that the Audi and VW techs that I know, I only know two of them however, would talk you out of that car for sure, especially if you don't know its service history.

As far as the P5 goes. Yes its slow, no the interior isn't the nicest but it is layed out nice. I can honestly say it is my favorite vehicle I have owned. It is somewhat rare since it was only sold in the U.S. for two years, so it still turns heads. People still ask me what it is, most people think its a 3, and at this point I stopped correcting them. It is reliable, I'm only at 170,000 miles, and no major problems yet. As far as the ABS, leather, sunroof... The only one I would want of the group is the sunroof. I live in Florida.... leather + 100 or more degree heat, no thank you. ABS.... not if you want to autoX....

I'm sure I could keep going if I wanted to, But I will stop there. As you can see, my biased opinion goes to the Mazda
