I keep reading about what a catch can does, and im still a little confused. I know that it pulled excess crap and oil...out of the intercooler???

help me out with this please@

it catches the oil that goes from the pcv venting the crankcase back into your intake system. your throttle body and motor will thank you for installing one. the pcv valve is under the intake manifold. not the easiest thing to get to but i say catch can ftw.

Nice post and good advice!

Why didn't Speed3s come with one? I had one on my Subaru and saw the benefits of it. The install looks to be a killer on this car though. From what I've read it helps the Speed3 greatly. Is this something that mostly stock Speed3s should get, too? Didn't really want to add another mod to the car. If one isn't installed, when would the adverse effects start to take notice? And would Mazda warranty cover it?

A guy in the "what have you done to your car" post, said that after the install his smoking exhaust stopped! Maybe this install will prevent those infamous blown turbo seals!

You can get some good instructions and information off the Cobb site. It's a nice afternoons work, but well worth it.

takes a while for sure. your going to want to install it the lowest you can. i found a few screws that fit into the tranny. theres some screw holes i would assume were there from the making of the tranny but who cares....its at the bottom of the motor but high enough to not hit the ground. you need it to be put down low because with the help of gravity youll get the most grunge out of that circulaing air.

Imagine what's coming out of the PCV valve is a misty, smokey, vaporous gas from the crank case. Routing this to the catch can allows the crap in this gas to fall out of suspension and condensate inside the catch can. It falls out of suspension best when you can run the gases though a baffle of some sort, like a stainless steel pot scrubber or something like that. There are all sorts of baffle options depending on the catch can. Some don't have anything inside.

Anyway, you get the idea hopefully. Rather than suck all the vapors into your intake system where they can condensate inside your TMIC or elsewhere before they are burned in the motor, you just collect them in the can instead.

The sooner you install one, the less of that crap can buildup inside your intake tract.

I'm running a simple unfiltered cannister right now. It seems to be doing its job. But I did a little digging and found out that some pretty serious racers are using the setup below with the Watts particulate filter. The white paper link is pretty interesting. I think this is the direction I'm headed:

It ain't cheap, but it makes sense to me.

which catch can should I get? the coolant or oil? This seems to be like something I should get because I'm about to say screw my warrenty and do what I want. So I want to take care of my motor and at the same time power it up
