i have joined the protege 5 clan... got a 2002 5spd. dam nice car.... did have an rx-7 but kept breaking down every weekend so i said F*ck it i want a new car. and chose that.... love the car so far.... included a pic of it...

Now hold on there... I bought my car in Feb, but it was built in November.

Look in your owner's manual jacket (or whatever the hell they call that thing) for a green and white slip of paper that has Japanese writing on it. If you can't read it, scan it or take a picture of it, and I'll have my wife translate it for you... it's got some cool info on it. When your car was built, date and time it was painted, when it left the factory, etc. Not everyone has these, but I few dealers have left them in.

my thoughts exactly on the engine...i'm probably not going to touch the engine for now...the only thing i've really done to mine is change the bulbs and add an air freshener if you really call that a mod...lol...but my car does smell fresh

The easiest way to tell if it's 2001 or 2002.5 is to look at the rims. If it has the rims like mazdarx7power's, it's the new one.

Hey welcome to the club. Is that the RX-7 you sold on the right or a different one? Just curious what year was the one you were having trouble with. I have a P5 and a '88 RX-7 also but have had very few problems with the 7. I do not plan on selling mine. Don't want anyone on this forum to worry about Mazda reliability. Both of my RX-7's were great for reliablility. However, I have heard there were more problems with the 3rd gens.

I've never been much of a car guy, but i like the Protege 5 and after reading how it can be modified, i have become very interested. I just dont know how to start modifying it first? My eventual goal, after I can get the money is to put a turbo in, but i am far from that right now...if anyone can help please reply.
