Calling CP-E DP owners...

Hey all,

Just ordered my CP-E High-Flow catted downpipe... Now, I am reading that our MS3 turbos might have floating seals which need back-pressure to seal properly. Seems like if you upgrade the exhaust/DP to a free-er flowering one, there are chances that your turbo seals will start leaking due to reduced back-pressure...

Any CP-E downpipe owners experienced this Phenomenon...?

In addition, can you describe your gains, driving experience after installing your CP-E downpipe. Also, list the mods to had previous to the downpipe.

Thanks!!(thumb)

i believe knowledge007 has the high flow cat and he still saw some white smoke...he went to the dealer and they changed his turbo.

Awe, don't tell me that... I hope it was just a freak thing...
Do you know if he has a 2007 or 2008?

Mine is a 2008 with only 4K miles...

If it happens, it happens. I've only seen smoke a handful of times while sitting at a light and it wasn't anything too crazy.

I'm completely catless if it makes you feel better.

I've only seen one smoking MS3 in my area and its not pretty...looks like a steam engine... LOL

Anyways, smoking is not an option for me...I didn't buy a new car to be in the same predicament as I was with my old 204K mile Miata...

i've got hi flow cats and i'm stil smoking actually i think my thread started yours hehe

Yes, your thread started my paranoia!!!!(nervous) Thanks!!

Did the smoking start as soon as you installed the DP...?
Are you running higher boost levels?
Will you be taking the car to the dealer for a turbo replacement? What did they say about your DP?

this was only my second incident with the smoke out side of my flange issues. the smoke started with just the test pipe, i never increased the boostl levels, and hell yea the dealership is going to fix this issue. the dealership said their is now way that my exhuast could do anything to the turbo so they have no issues as of yet

Awesome!!!! Let us know what happens...
BTW, what year and mileage is your car?

Since most people are getting their turbos replaced under warranty for leaky seals I wouldn't worry. In fact, I want to upgrade my exhaust ASAP so that if I DO have seal problems, I will know right away and get it replaced. I would hate to upgrade my exhaust after my warranty expires to find out that I have a turbo with leaky seals.

All the upgraded exhaust does is make the problem visible to the owner. I want the factory replacement turbo, not the old revision with crappy seals.

Great way of looking at it... My only concern is the dealer's view on a upgraded downpipe... I wouldn't mind having my turbo replaced if it came to that...I just hope the dealer won't care about my mods...simple mods...

^their is nothing you can do to a turbo to make the seals go bad excpet that it apart and mess with it. that is what 2 dealerships have told me

i had a custom DP WITH a cat and it smoked like crazy !! now laloosh uses it and gets zero smoke ?! some get it some dont, not sure why.

Well, mine should be in sometime this week and I am (hopefully) planning to install it Friday, then hit the drag strip... :)

I'll let everyone know my findings...

I'm starting to lean that way now as well seeing as there appears to be a bit of an issue with securing Corksport products, and I'm...whats that word...oh yeah, impatient. The CP-e...is it just a down pipe or is it a down pipe/midpipe combo?

Downpipe and midpipe combo. It will interface with the turbo exhaust thru the second cat/exhaust interface.

Here is a great illustration:

Sounds ok...and I could just pick one up tommorow on my lunch break...but still, I just can't get myself to crank out that much, even with the high flow cat.

The DP from CP-E is not a combo. It is one piece. A hell of a piece I might ad. In any case, yes I was smoking like a mad man just like you mentioned earlier like a steam powered train. Since the replacement turbo I have not had the issue return. I have not changed my habits regarding cooling down periods between drives. Samething as always, wait approx. 30 seconds to aminute before I shut down.

You dealer shouldn't have a problem with you exhaust mod. Just take the time to chat with them and tell them that you have cat and the mod will not cause a CEL due to the two bung holes for the factory O2 sensors. They should be fine with it.

Good luck,
