im tryin to figure out how much piping has to be cut outta my resonator pipe that i have for my muffler.
the whole thing put together right now is 2ft 11 5/8in
the resonator pipe is 1ft 5 3/4in
and the muffler is 1ft 6in

this is just an axel back so how much has to be taken outta the resonator pipe so that the tip of the muffler meets the bumper flush?

just take to a shop, they'll add the extra piping for u to the muffler, and nice muffler, i want one like that, where u get it?

a lot eh?
my friend crawled under my car and said about 2in had to be cut out the middle, but i just wanna make sure thats right.

and i got the muffler off one of my friends for 100 bucks. theres no brand name on it, so i cant tell you were to find one.

im trying to avoid going to a shop, ive already got the piping and the D clamps to put the piping together.
trying to save some money by doin this myself, so any help with how much piping i have to have cut out would be appreciated

my friend todd does. hes gonna weld it for me
hes in collision repair 2, so hes already had 2 years of welding experience

yea im gonna cut off the stock muffler, then use the resonator piping as an add in cuz the muffler itself is too short to reach to the stock piping, but the resonator pipe is too long so i have to shorten it, i just dont know by how much

ohhhh i get what yur doing, i thought u were gonna extend the pipe with the muffler to where axleback connects to.

I was confused for a bit too.

In this case I would just get under the car and compare the length of this muffler to the stock muffler, think about about how you want it to sit and approximate from there.

I don't think anyone will have an exact number for you.

Have you looked at other options? An axle-back would be a much cleaner install. You could have an axle-back from Mazda for $150 shipped.

make it look like the HKS axleback, with the muffler angled off to the right side yah know?

yea ive looked at other options but ive already bought the muffler and the piping, and i dont feel like buying another one unless this one sounds like s*** (which from what ive heard it shouldnt) i know a real axel back would be cleaner, but oh well. ill make do. ill probably get under the car tomorrow and have a look for myself about length.

i thought about that, not sure if thats what i wanna do (or can do) since i only have a straight resonator pipe (obviously i could cut the pipe at an angle. but we'll see. i think im just gonna do the straight back look rather then the angled look

I think it will be loud as hell..

Remove the stock pipe. Lay it on a table next to the mulfer and compare.

Cut the stock one off, weld it in place then work out the hangers to support the extra weight..

ok what do you mean by resonator pipe. that looks like a piece of plain jane 2.25 stainless to me

the tips are flared out on it. and it says resonator pipe on the sticker. the guy at autozone said thats the difference between a piece of exhaust piping and a resonator pipe.

and resonator pipes are supposed to change the tone of the exhaust some

your post confused me lol. im cuttin the stock muffler off, and usin the piping i bought to add in to the stock piping. my muffler is too short to reach the bumper without extra piping

I think he meant that you should take the axle-back off the car, lay it on the table and compare, etc.

To be honest, if you have no tools to bend pipes to tweak it just right, it might end up looking like ass... But I love getting proven wrong (ughdance)

i shouldnt have to bend any piping, if i cut off the stock muffler at the pipe, and then just cut the piping i have down to the right size, it should work just fine i would think

This is just my opinion, but you're trying to do it the cheap way. If the fitment is good, I will be surprised. Most likely the fitment will be poor and you won't be happy.
