i was thinking about doing this to mine.. i might get one fabricated..but not sure, let me know if it works out, cuz i would definatly be interested in just going for the premade...lol..

here is a pic of mine, in feb we are going to begin making them using a new design with the bar 6 in lower and smaller/adjustable down tubes! i used both the side mounting bolts on both sides and honestly i didnt need the down tubes because the thing is extremly rigid. anyway it can be done but it takes a while to get everything bent right and the exact b-b pillar angle and measurement!!

i made it myself with my roomate. we are going to make a batch in feb when he gets back from afganistan (military stuff) and make me a new one also. but if anybody does make one put the bar down level with the holes in your seat for the harnesses. it is safer. that is why mine got redesigned. plus we are going to put the hoops over the harnesses so the dont slide and mine will have a camera mount attached as well.

Understood..but i like your setup, and you should see how much it would cost for parts, and for you to make me one (wink) I love yours, and i will be doing the exact same thing as you want. The camera and all that good stuff.

i am not going to guestamate right now due to metal prices probally going up alot because of gas. it will be cheaper then the sparco one and will be made just for the protege's.

Well alright then. all i was saying was like the sooner the better due to my car being in the shop at the moment..that would prolly be the last decision i make. So. anyways, On another note, i went to your website, and it seems thta all the links are down..

one more question.. You have under your head unit the little guage holder thing, i guess its a filled pocket or something..anyways, where did you get that. Its really neat. and how much did you pay for it?

Alright guys... I was looking for someone who knew for sure, but I guess since we don't have that, I'll be the test pig. Brackets should be here in the next couple of weeks. I might or might not try to mess with the bar before then... school starting next week. If it indeed works, I'll take pics along the whole way and write up a how to. If anyone else has any info that might be helpful, it would be greatly appreciated. I'll keep ya posted.

I measured the distance between the B-pillars the other night on the Protege and a WRX. The WRX was about 46-46.5" and the Protege was 46.5-47". There is really no reason why the WRX harness bar couldn't be put into the Protege with minimal work.

The sparco bar for the wrx is listed at 399 USD according to their website. Just in case anyone is reference it.

I assume mounting points will have to be made though, unless there are specific points that can be used where the bar meets the B-pillars.
