Modified Shifter - Home made short shifter

I made my own version of a short shifter today. Took about 30 minutes and works great

Basically, I used the factory shifter, shortened the overall length of the rod, and raised the location where the cable attaches to so it not only is a shorter shifter, but the throw has been reduced as well.

Here are the before and after pics
First pic is in 3rd gear
Second pic is in Neutral
Third pic is in 4th gear
Fourth pic - random "in progress" pics

One more pic.. An overlay showing the total throw from 3rd to 4th.
Shifts are just a flick of the wrist now, and best of all, it cost me nothing.

The only significant difference from my home made shifter and the TWM short shifter (rev 2) is that mine does not have those 4 aluminum bushings.

Personally, I prefer the rubber bushings.

Did you re-thread the rod?
No. The rod is much larger in diameter below the threaded portion.
you can not just thread it.

The original threads were used.
I cut a section of rod out and re-attached the original threads onto the now shorter shifter.

More importantly, raised the arm that connects to the shift rod.

This pic is basically what I did.

Thats a pritty nice setup, and the pics are good too. How long did it take to do?
Honestly, it took under an hour from the time I parked my car to the time it was completely modified and installed.

After the first one, I'm sure I could do the next one even faster knowing now exactly what needs to be done.

Removing the shifter from the car is a 5 minute job, Don't even need to remove the console, just pull out the drink holder and the shift boot assembly, then 4 10mm bolts and that's it.

Everything snaps together.

For the pics, I set my camera to take multiple pictures 1 minute apart and placed it on the arm rest on the passenger side of the car with the passenger door closed. So the before and after pics are taken from the same spot.

I feel sorry for the people who bought the first generation TWM shifter without the bend towards the driver. I hope TWM gives free replacements for everyone that bought it when it first came out.

The TWM shifter WITH the bend towards driver is probably good, but a little pricey for me.

Would you be able to do another one (for a price)?
