I would go with the 5, I've driven the 3 and yes it is a little faster but not by much

I've ran a couple of 3 wagons and my 5 keeps right up with them. My only mods are a AEM CAI at the time and no second cat

so.........long and short....go with the 5

Its hard to tell with car is faster if you go drive one then the other (straight track) and not timing it, I ran what I thought was my fastes time, but when the numbers came back I SUCKED, almost a second off, (I still beat the focus) but my time was s*** compared to the second faster time I ran a half hour earlier.

I cruiz at 70 mph, but every now and then I look down and Im doing 80 - 85

Its almost IMPOSIBLE to tell witch is fast like that UNLESS THERE IS SUBSTANCIAL DIFERENCE (maybe your talented though)

and I've drive the 3, (about 2 blocks) and I opened her up to see what was there (not much, only from the bottom to the top of the block) and it felt right around the same place as my stock (at the time) 2002 LX, I do admit that there was a little more pull but only higher in thhe RPM and there was LAG for throttle responce. Ive since added a CAI and CAT & By far My protege is now faster (better off the line and at high speeds) & more throttle responce.(throttle responce is the most noticable change since modding), and mathmatically, I got more ponies now with thhe 2 mods adding 10-20 hp together, thats at least 145 now

I dont know what efect its had on the TOP speed as I havnt brought her that high yet (I've toped off at 120, there was still RPM and pull to go but, running out of straight Highway)

id say Mazda3, its got a better interior design and improved performance, and stylewise its much better than p5

The interior in my opinion is RETARDED, the ******* brain surgery you got to do to put in a aftermarket CD player is nuts.

I like the telescoping stering wheel, thats cool, and the lines are tight, but the center console and sterio Face are too retarded for me

AND THE 3 IS DEFECTIVE

oh yeah

the sport has a indent in the rear bumper so you can put your fingers under the trunk to open it and the back end is flush.

the sedan doesnt have the indent and unless you have a spoiler, its RETARTED TO OPEN THE trunk, there is no leverage point, and its flush all over so there is nowhere to put your fingers.


Your all good with a spoiler but without, its bulls***

I would buy a car with a unfixed defect like that, I mean come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talking about headunits, my friend in Vancouver BC owns a Mazda3-5.
His stock in-dash single CD-player isn't very good, it skips all the time even the car run over highway joints. I never have that problem in my P5 stock cd-player. But I guess this won't be a problem if he plans to have an aftermarket headunit installed anyway.

I had a burnt CD that skipped so bad it would skit when I was ABOUT to hit the bump

I reburnt the CD at a slower speed and more quality, hasnt skipped since

maybe its the CD

Look at the rear end on the sedan and the 5 door, you cant miss it (one has opening the other doesnt

and when my girlfriends friend (owner of the 3 I drove, and person who pointed out the defect) she went to the dealer to complain & the told her to buy the spoiler.

Im not impressed with that

I blame it on fords ownership taking a tole with Mazdas Quality (but I just dont like ford (all cars ecept the mustang, pretty much)

2 things realy seperate these 2 cars (look, & Price)

So the only real question is, is the amount you pay More for the 3 worth the look of the 3 over the 5

Im sory, but the P5 in my opinion looks better, (and the P5 has more options for body kits, this mean more flexibility with the look)

there is no way the look is worth the diference in price

Painted the plastick, and added a brushed aluminum insert, Im waiting onmy reverse guages, but they are on the way

i drove my cousins brand new 3 around in the summer down in florida for about a week...she had the 2.3 five door with the auto. it is definately faster than my car ('02 p5) the interior is way nicer looks much more upscale....the outside can be disputed for hours its really by preference...also the options for the three are much more extensive....navi. xenons etc.......if i had my choice i would take a 3 and thats comin from a p5 owner ...dont get me wrong i love my car, but the three would be my choice if money wasnt a factor

I took a look at his engine, and I was amazed at how large it was. I wonder if weight has any difference for why the 3 seems slow, because that engine is huge for a 2.3 liter. I'm going to ask my neighbor if he wants to trade cars for a day and see if there are any noticeable power differences.
