What should I do next?

I have many mods, but some of the more simple things need done. What should I do next?

Tranny Fluid <- def. need to get this done
Engine Mounts
Shifter Bushings
Anything else I have forgotten about
etc
etc

BTW-Where can I get engine mounts, and how hard are they to replace?

What type of engine management mods would you guys reccommend? I have heard of Unichip and something about flashing, but honestly do not know what these are or pertain to. Can someone educate me on these? Thanks.

I want to do the right things to my engine, and keep it running well and to my liking. So, I want to cover all my bases. It seems that engine mounts and shifter bushings will make my everyday driving a better experience....and more to my liking. I want to "maximize", for lack of better words, the investments I have already put into the engine by changing some small things like these. I guess I am most interested in engine management. What mods have worked out well for you guys? Thanks so much in advance. Please do not tell me to Forge internals....

I found a link for engine mounts in the mod list sticky. Should I replace all of them of just the front? As an everyday driver it seems just the front would be good.....but I do really hate the "clunkiness" of the engine while shifting. What have people experienced?

Both mounts. I have the AT front and rear. this is what I should have done first. Even though it vibrates some at idle, the throttle response is less jerky and it no longer seems like the motor is going to come through the hood.

What kind of market is there for a plug and play chip that upgrades fuel, ignition, and boost maps to a greater performance spec?

It would either be a chip soldered into the ecu or direct port via the OBD II port. I cant say which since it is very much dependant on the factory setup.

Pricing is 5-600

In case anyone is wondering I havent even brought this up to be developed, but if there is a large enough demand I'll see what I can do.

Possibly more GHL goodies for the Mazdaspeed? (thumb) There are a couple of options for fuel management now, but the more the merrier (none of them are in the $500-$600 price range though (bowdown) ). I think a good piggyback for those of us who have never done full scale tuning would be a great option. The stock ECU is crap...anything would be better...please consider making this. Come on guys...let GHL know there is a market for this!

I would be interested. A better ECU for the MSP is a need that many have....

Britt,
Thanks for the input. I will look into getting these. How hard is this install?

On your list... motor mounts but I would looking to a bigger S-pipe, greddy e-manage, better internals (our pistons and rods are very weak--trust me!), injectors, bigger turbo

To answer your question, I would definitely recommend doing the motor mounts, tranny fluid and shifter bushings - fairly cheap and will improve the driving experience vastly.
The front motor mount isn't too difficult to install...but the back is supposed to be a real pain. (Haven't done the back yet...) Shifter bushing and tranny fluid are easy...you can easily do all three in less than 2 hours. BTW ********** sells the motor mounts pretty cheap, and you have the option to purchase just the front.

help Convince GHL to make something like they just offered...

GHL, are you talking about something that would be a one time PnP to fix the MSP ECU probs, something that could be tuned by laptop w/ a dyno, or something that could be upgradeable via downloads/retunes/new chips?

Ok thanks. I think mounts and shifter bushings are next in line along with tranny fluid. What can the e-manage do for me? How does one go about replacing internals? Do these parts sell somewhere....and you have a tuner shop do the install? I do not trust myself enough to open up my engine. Remember....this is a daily driver car. I am not necessarily looking for huge HP gains. More like small upgrades to make the engine perform better. The e-manage could be a good investment...

I just talked with a local auto shop that I have been going to for a while. Any small jobs like changing oil and flushing radiator I have them do becuase I don't have a garage in Toledo yet. Next oil change they will throw some Redline MT-90 in the tranny for me :). All my big jobs, I travel to my buddies shop near Akron,OH. Might have to do this for the mounts and bushings. Still don't know weather or not I want both front and rear mounts or JUST the front. Thanks for your help guys.

Why a bigger S-pipe may I ask? What changes are noticable?

anything to free up the exhaust...it'll help the turbo spool, and sometimes people have noticed increase boost at "stock" levels...

Have you looked at the stock s-pipe. It's a great pipe... FOR ME TO POOP ON!
Seriously though, it is probably the most restrictive part of the exhaust system on our cars. You're gonna wanna let that engine breathe a little easier and help that turbo spool a bit.

The setup I am reffering to is a one time flash to the ecu. There can be a flash for stock boost levels with refined fuel/ignition maps and a high boost setup. This software is dyno tuned. I am not 100% sure on the Mazdaspeeds ECU, this is technology we have available for Bosch Motronic ECU's(VW/Porsche/Audi).

so this would be like sending us a new ECU that has been flashed? Would there be a provision for reflashing by sending the ECU back, at like $150 a pop or so...This is what I have seenw ith some other systems on other cars, seems to work well.

Something tells me based on just stuff I have heard that this won't work on a Mazda setup...But prove me wrong please hehe.

casapolis, your car is looking great right now...especially the engine bay. i know u didnt mention this kind of stuff, but i suggest the dgm cf engine cover, would look great with your set up. also a short shifter to go along with those bushing if you dont already ahve one

yeah, the MSP/MP3 ECU, and most all of Mazda's ECUs, are locked down tighter than Ft. Knox. The only things that seem to work really well are stand-alone engine management systems, like the MPI tuner and Haltech. The only piggyback we have is the Unichip, which also seems very good but isnt user tunable. AEM is supposed to come out with a PnP system, but that has been in the works for a while now and should be soon. At any rate, I don't think something the computer flash systems(ie Hypertech, JET), the ones that go through the OBDII scanner port, would work at all with the PCM in our cars.

Thanks. I have been spending money on performance lately, but before I ever spend money on a CF engine cover I need to install my Xtant amp and Alpine Type-S sub. They look great on my desk and all......but they don't. Can't fiberglass in the winter due to ventilation issues....needs to be done outside. Here are my plans:
Tranny fluid
Engine Mounts
Short shift + bushings
System in trunk w/fiberglass
S-pipe
custom spare tire holder in trunk for extra Rays Gunmetal Lightweight w/Potenza :)
Car Shows
By next summer this will all be done, if not spring. Yearly bonus should pay for it (hump) .....can't wait. Damn I have got to get out of this habbit. Someone help me......
