DGM Carbon Fiber Front-End

for real ... did you buy a fm and put it vertically? what would be the reason for this?
That was the way it was orginally designed. Last time I went to Flyinmiata.com there was no Flyinprotege anymore. :(

That is the same turbo kit I have right now with that same intercooler. I have a replacement FMIC though.

as bad ass as it would be, i dont think it would be a good practical, everday application. i defenitely foresee some serious problems if you plan to put a full CF front end on a daily driver.

Patrick, I too thought about going the frontend route. What originally stopped me was the fact that the front end is a stock front end, mazda flying M and all. I may eventually do it though, when I get fed up with my wingswest bumper. I would go the fiberglass route though, as I suggest you do as well. A rock chip on carbon fiber is hell, and unfixable, but if you get their fiberglass frontend, it can always be re-fiberglassed, or repainted. Not to mention the fiberglass front end is lighter and cheaper. I really like the ideas of having my bumper, and fenders come off at the lift of a hood. Super easy to work on. As for the hinge system, if you buy it, I would be more than happy to machine something here at work to allow it to open. I just need to see how I can attach the hinge to the underside of the front end. Don't wanna drill holes through the front of your hood. You could always just source out old corvette hood hinges, they flip up like that as well. Not to mention a few other cars. I personally upon receipt of the front end would chop out the headlight holes, not the foglights, the lower grill, and the upper grill. That would get rid of the stock flying M atleast, maybe even glue in my autoexe grill.

it could work. the headlights would have to be attached and that would be your only inssue. i attached the picture from an earlier post to point out where you could weld in some stainless steel rods for locking hood pins. Also a lock through the center of the hinge(s) would work and stop it from being opened and much cleaner.

As far as street legal... the headlights from corksport the msp ones painted black would work so youd have the amber sidemarker. Leave the reinforcment bar in place with energy absober. That way if you get in accident the CF may shatter but your frame should be okay and the insurance company would pay for a new CF front end because they should cover anything installed on the car. The insurance could screw you though if its not street legal because blah blah blah insurance talk blah blah...

EDIT: if equinox can machine you the latches he can prob do my lock idea like stated above

I say Fiberglass too, easyier to repair, but i fiberglass does weigh a lil bit more than carbon fiber..
Also with fiberglass, if you get tired of that front bumper design, get an eribuni fiberglass front end and get a good body shop to mold it in.. might pay a good buck, but you cant do that with carbon fiber..

i like the whole idea of having that front end , i would do it but i dont think my car is worth that much trouble and time... if i had the 1.8 or 2.0 i wouldnt look back, but a 1.6 auto kinda tends to put you at limits...

that s*** is soo sick. i would mount it on the side , throw and actuator or 2 on it and flip it up dieways with the lights and all =)

Damn, Amie is pretty damn busy. She told me she would post here with some info at the end of the day. I understand boo. ;)
