Mazda teasing all new 2026 CX-5!

I'm in the minority too it seems as I am liking what I see. Looking forward to the 10th for the official reveal.
I'm officially, unofficially in the market to replace my '19 CRV. I too am looking forward to seeing the new Gen CX-5. I like our '24 CX-5 enough to consider the model a serious contender on my shopping list. Some critics are saying that it's more of a refresh on the current Gen than a complete ground up remodel. My biggest grip is the smaller interior space inside our CX-5 compared to my CRV. It's worlds apart. I'm hoping that the rumor of increased interior space is accurate.

If they build the US market CX-5 here, rather than in Japan, it will make me think again about buying one. Much prefer my Japanese cars to be built in Japan. I made an exception with my 20 Frontier, but it's a pretty basic vehicle...
I get that but our CX-50 was built in the new MTM plant in AL and ownership for 2.5yrs was hassle free. The only thing we had done outside of normal maintenance was to have one of the A/C lines replaced. Bought it in February and when summer rolled around, my wife turned on the A/C but nothing. Turns out the line was never bored out during fabrication.

I don't see Mazda making it much bigger inside. I mean, maybe an inch or two here or there but nothing outrageous. Have you considered the CX-50? Prior to our 2023, we had a 2016.5 and 2020 CX-5 and I much preferred the interior of the CX-50.

This! That’s why most of us would like to get our hands on a CX-5 assembled in Japan!

When I typed that, I had a feeling this was coming. haha I had my reservations when buying the CX-50 but was pleasantly surprised overall. The fit and finish of the interior rivaled that of my Miata built in Japan....no rattles, everything lined up nicely and same for the exterior panels.

Are those A/C lines fabricated at the AL plant or are they sourced from a third party vendor in another country? Serious question as I don't know their origin. Should it have been caught on the line during assembly, yes. But maybe the A/C lines on ours were done late on a Friday afternoon? lol While it was a minor inconvenience, Mazda stepped up and had it fixed in a timely manner. We liked the CX-50 so much that my wife almost leased another one as a replacement without second thought.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not crazy about the low wagon profile of the CX-50 but it's not completely off the table for me.

My wife chose the cx5 over the cx50 as she felt the interior was a bit larger. Also the seats were more comfortable. I preferred how the cx50 drove more like my mustang gt...but it is her car.
"De gustibus non est disputandum"
I drove the CX-50 few times, loaner from the dealership while my CX-5 was in their shop, and I have no desire to ever drive one again. 🤣

I felt the same way. It was weird. I felt like I was driving an American muscle car, in a good way. Mazda has some crazy secret sauce in knowing how to set up a vehicle for their intended audience.

But something about the CX-5 felt tighter overall, it was quieter, and yes I noticed the seats also.

Well, judging from these recent comments re: 50 vs. 5 it looks like Mazda made them with enough differences that they were able to expand their CUV/SUV/WhateverUV customer base without cutting into the 5's sales... (y)

I like the road holding properties of hunkered down feel of a sedan. :)

But I don't mean this in a condescending way!
Well, a sedan falls more into the sportier side of things, but with interior space limitations. The folks here in this forum are utility drivers. Surely, you can appreciate the need for added space to haul items? Or do you just rent a U-haul in times of need? ;)

I can't think of a single instance when I needed a crossover for the extra space. It's limited for tall items, but otherwise the long chassis has decent cargo capacity with the seats folded.

The only time I ever rented a cargo van was when no crossover would have been suited for the task either.

I do like the idea of a suspension geometry that's likely better suited to bad roads, but, even my 6 occasionally feels a little too soft for my cornering expectations.

That is what drew me to the CX-50 over the CX-5. Don't get me wrong the CX-5 has beautiful lines but there was just something about the boxiness of the CX-50 that caught my eye every time I looked at it. Most likely that I love a good hatchback/wagon. ;) Oddly enough, my wife despises wagons but fell in love with the CX-50 at first sight, go figure.

Speaking of, we got on the subject of wagons last night as she showed me the new Audi sedan one of our old neighbors just bought and how she really liked it. I said that if we get an Audi, it will be an RS6 Avant. Upon showing her, she wrinkled her nose. Probably for the best though as I wouldn't be able to enjoy it after being put in jail for robbing a bank to buy it. :ROFLMAO:

Yes they did! I remember all of the talk when the 50 was introduced about it being the same size, it will cannibalize sales of the 5, etc. But there is definitely a market for both and was a win-win for Mazda. The CX-70/CX-90 on the other hand, well that's a debate for another thread. haha

I'd much rather have a hatchback/wagon vs a SUV/CUV. I'd love it if Mazda brought the 6 wagon back over to the US! Only problem is convincing my wife it's more practical for her than another 50, 5, 30.

Same here. I'm not really an SUV/CUV fan and prefer hatchbacks and station wagons. But I like my CX-5 because it looks sleek and clean instead of boxy (like many including CX-50) or overstyled (like the Korean competitors). However, I may downsize to a Mazda3 hatch in the next year or two, not only for me but for my wife who has developed difficulty with ingress/egress with my CX-5. I loved my 2012 Mazda3 hatch, which was one of the best cars I ever owned.

I guess in the end, all CUV/SUVs were derived from the wagon (a vehicle with a usually near vertically positioned hatchback door).

My first ever vehicle was a wagon.
