7eregrine expressed my concerns on cylinder deactivation very well but missed one. I keep my vehicles forever, and my main concern on CD has always been the long-term reliability. If I replace my car once for every 3~4 years, CD won*t be my major concern other than a personal believe not to buy something the design theory is flawed. Why don't you like it? We have a 2018 and our idle is fine and on the highway we get 36 MPG, which I assume is from the cylinder deactivation
Well put. Longevity is the concern. If you have your car during warranty then it wouldn't be an issue. If you've ever had the valve cover off of a running engine you could see that the valve train is a very busy part of it, maybe some one could get a video of this somewhere. I don't see solenoids as a good addition to the mix. Add to the fact that there's fuel oil dilution, burnt fuel byproducts, possible sludge buildup over time, heat,... just seems like a bad soup to put electronic devices into. Doesn't seem like a recipe for success.7eregrine expressed my concerns on cylinder deactivation very well but missed one. As whether or not the occasionally rough idle at the stop light on 2018 CX-5 is related to CD of course is my guess. We*ve seen such report only on 2018 CX-5. IMO it*s the bugs in new ECM firmware, which can*t handle certain situation making the idle control out of whack. Of course this doesn*t mean every 2018 CX-5 owner would experience this.
What rental companies offer CX5's?!? I ask because I wanted to rent one before I bought mine and could find NO ONE that had them.
That's nothing, mazda sent out a mass recall because they forgot to make sure the gas tank on the cx5 shouldn't have sharp bolts around it, wasnt it? Also they forgot to paint something and the hatch struts broke?
Cmon..I'm much more concerned with the fuel dilution of the 1.5T than some freak hatch strut incident.
Another question for everyone. We live in Virginia, so not a lot of snow but my wife insists she wants AWD. Can I get your input on your preference and why?
A lot of topics get recycled here over the years. If more people would search, they'd probably get a more informative answer from people who don't frequent this forum anymore.

Thanks everyone. I have my eyes set on a black on black 2018 GT AWD with 14k miles. Gonna try and pull the trigger tomorrow. Any suggestions on negotiating tips?
Any time someone needs a jackrabbit start on even wet pavement AWD shines... not even talking snow or ice. I will never purchase a FWD vehicle ever again. My '02 Maxima GLE that my CX-5 replaced back in '14 was my last FWD vehicle. I would consider a RWD only for summer only fun.
Wtf is a jack rabbit start?
Good luck OP!
