Small Oil leak for me too... :-(

They are going to replace all seals in that area apparently... timing cover, crank, oil pan, etc..... they want to ensure there are no further leaks in that area. They didn't have crank seal in stock and will take a couple hours to obtain so they sent me home in a new CX-5 loaner. I'll pick it up tomorrow. I told the service writer I was using moly so he made a note to replace with that oil.
If I were you, I'd ask for the rear crankshaft seal replacement too as you do have some leak and seepage in that area before. It may be good for both side replacing the rear main seal right now since they have decided to replace almost every major seal、gasket, etc. Yeah I understand the rear one involves a lot more work, including separating the engine and transmission.

Speaking of Mazda moly oil, I was wondering is it possible your seepage and leak may have something to do with your consistent use of Mazda moly oil? May be something in the moly oil eating up the sealing material Mazda used for timing chain cover and oil pan? Just a wild guess. (whistle)

I probably should have played that card earlier today... we'll see how this pans out tomorrow. I'll post a list of what was done.

Off topic...first time I've driven a '16.... it's a touring AWD with tech so not a optioned out GT. Interestingly a 1/15 build with only 2K miles on it. Seems a bit smother than mine but could be the smaller tires. A tad quieter but my Weathertech rain guards raised the road noise for me the most. The cloth seat in this model seems to hold me a little better. If one didn't want to mess with manual mode Sport is a nice alternative. I found engaging sport while while decelerating was a nice automatic way of additional engine braking instead through manumatic. I didn't care how it held gear once up to speed but for lower launch speeds seemed fine. Electric Parking Brake.... not really keen on that but it seems everything is going that way. Nice lighting all around and liked the bigger pockets in door. Liked the Commander knob. Not gonna trade mine off unless someone chooses to make a traffic mistake and total mine out. :-)

Surprising number of people shopping for cars on a quite rainy weekday. Only a few people in service department getting oil changed. This is a nice new relocated dealership. Unlimited coffee, mocha.... create whatever type machine. A good place to telework if you can with USB charge ports etc. Friendly and helpful staff.... they again brought me back into work area under my vehicle on a lift to point out the leak area they were going to fix.

They won't simply replace components because you ask them to, there needs to be an actual failure. In the case of a fluid leak...it needs to be be exactly that a LEAK, NOT seepage.
I would assume he is talking about the FRONT crankshaft seal as well here. Since the timing cover will be removed, the front crankshaft seal will likely be damaged or disturbed in the process of removing the timing cover. This cover holds the front crankshaft seal. Hence a necessary component to repair/replace...just like the valve cover and oil pan.

Got her back today. They actually finished it late yesterday but I assume they wanted to give the RTV time to cure.

That's fast by the mechanic who did your job! I guess now you only need to watch the rear end of the engine to make sure there is no seepage or leak spotted earlier. (boom02)

I didn't inquire further when I heard the statement but mechanic mentioned something being keyed on this motor that made this repair a lot quicker than the non-SkyActiv Mazda motors.

Anyone have any info on this?

Crankshaft is keyed versus older 2.3 engines with no crankshaft key.
Basically if you take off the harmonic balancer you can loose timing. However if it's keyed it will not require the engine to be re-timed.

I'll tell ya, just looking at those new cars with balloons attached makes me want to do some car shopping! ;)

I have same oil leak issue since last year. Had it monitor for quite some time. Leak didnt get worse, but its there. After several complain,
Dealer finally decide to fix the rear main seal before my warranty runs out.
Will get the car back tomorrow they are also going to replace two of my door lock actuator since they constantly making weird noise especially when its cold out.
Side note, my front shock boots kept getting torn apart, I don't take the car off roading and it happen twice already. luckily its also cover under warranty. Anyone experience same issue?

I haven't look at my original seepage issue in a while. I'm gonna be changing oil again soon so will check then.

No torn shock boots on mine.

I really hope the fix will take care of the problem. Not sure the reliability in the future tho. This is my first Mazda and I have gone thru few issues already. Nothing major, I hope the built quality improved. Since mine was build in 2012 Decembers. I've gone thru issue like, hood, and driver mirror rattle, ac not working, oil leak, shock boots torn, door actuator replaced, rear bake pad wear faster than normal.

So i came back today with the car. They did not replace my rear main seal. They removed the starter and inspect the rear main seal and bell housing including engine oil pan rear sealing. Found all dry with no evidence of any leak, other than at bottom of transmission bell housing. They still couldn't give me an answer where the leak is coming from. Im getting frustrated. Was told on monday rear main seal needs to replace and today was told it's not necessary.
I started to think my dealer simply don't want to deal with this issue. The leak started last year, and I had it cleaned first time by myself, second time from the dealer. This is the 3rd time. Im getting sick of hearing "keep monitor the situation". What should i do now guys? Go different dealer? or call mazda customer relations? or wait till it get really worse?

Definitely call Customer Experience Center at Mazda North American Operations and set up a case. Tell them you're not happy about the experience of your Mazda dealer and they're enable to fix your oil leak problem. Email them all the pictures you have and make them commit fixing your oil leak problem even if your warranty expires.

By looking at your pictures your oil leak problem is worse than Kedis82ZE8's and Mazda should really do something on it!

I guess I will contact customer relation tomorrow and see what happen next. I did speak to the service manager today, but they felt like they did necessary inspection and can't not find the problem. Was told all fluid level is normal. If further inspection such as taking the tranny out would cost me thousand if no fault is discover.
I know this is an early sign of leaking but I feel like i need an answer where the leak is coming from. Maybe my dealer isn't competent enough to do the work.

The fact of matter is you have an oil leak and Mazda should fix it under warranty. Your dealer is definitely incompetent to fix the problem after 3 tries! Now they gives you all kind of excuses and even threatens you paying thousand if they can't find the leak! It's their responsibility to find leak and fix it, you should pay nothing even if taking out the transmission for inspection is necessary. Tell the rep at Mazda's Customer Experience Center about this and ask them to give you other alternatives such as going to another Mazda dealer or sending a field engineer to your dealer helping the dealer to resolve the issue!

I think my last resort is to take it to another dealership. Yes, it's still under warranty. But with all this extra work is really bothering me. Will keep you guys posted.

Today, i had a chance to speak to one of their service guy. They suspect the leak is rust proofing residue. To me its an odd spot for oil coming out between oil pan and transmission.
I had the rust proofing done back in 2014 with the dealer. It's doesn't make any sense with the oil start appearing in 2016. At this point, they had the whole area cleaned. I had a chance to revisit the worked they've done yesterday, and i was not impressed. The casing is widely open, i'm not sure if that will affect the performance. I've attached some photos before and after, let me know what you guys think.
