2016 CX-5
Hello! I've got my eyeballs on a 2016 CX-5 Touring at my local dealer. I've done two test drives and I'm satisfied with the car overall. Couple of things that I forgot to check out though that I don't think warrant another run to the dealer when I can maybe get my questions answered here. Searched the forum, but could not really find specific answers to these:

1) I've read that it takes a while for an iPod/USB stick to become available when you start up the car if you have a lot of music (I do). I noticed this during my second test drive when I brought my iPod along, the salesman and I were both puzzled about why the iPod wasn't showing up. She actually ran inside to get another salesman (she was new), and by the time she got back, it was available. My question is -- does this only occur when you plug it in after having it unplugged, as in does it read the current index and store it until it detects the iPod has been removed? And was there a firmware update that fixed this, even a little?

2) When you choose shuffle as the playback method for your iPod or USB drive, does that choice stick after you turn the car off? My current Hyundai and previous BMW, you had to select shuffle ... every ... time ... and it was annoying.

3) Has there been any word on whether or not Android Auto will make it to the CX-5?

That's all I can think of right now. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger, just want to be 100% sure before I do. My only real gripe is the Bose stereo -- sounds very distant and not very full, kind of like someone just stuck a jambox in the car, which is kind of a jolt after living with the Infinity system in my Genesis Coupe.

1) I don't have an iPod so I have no answer to this. However, I leave my 8GB USB flash drive (with a little over 100 songs) plugged in 24/7, and it's available very quickly after starting the car, so it could be the iPod not presenting itself to the car quick enough, or the communication/protocol is not as smooth as expected, or the system needs some time to scan the folder structure the first time.

2) With my USB drive, shuffle and repeat settings are remembered. The car even resumes playback in the middle of the song exactly where it left off.

3) There's some going discussion in this thread, including a YouTube link of a working Android on stock infotainment:

If you're brave/comfortable enough with tinkering, there're some software mods/tweaks in the Mazda3 forum, including information of latest firmwares:

no ipod so i can't answer your initial question but i do use streaming services over bluetooth and it starts where it left off when i start the car.

also for the Bose, you can adjust the Centerpoint speaker in the settings (centerpoint on/off) and for me, that seemed to help make the sound fuller but sound is subjective so YMMV.

Thanks guys :) I went to the dealership at lunch and tried the iPod (with about 60GB of music) and a full 32GB USB stick. Both came right up, and when I turned the motor off and turned it back on, the music started right up, shuffle still in effect, and I was able to browse the songs on my iPod without any delay. I've got an older 120GB iPod Classic, so maybe that has something to do with it. Or maybe it was because my iPod was the last USB device that was attached to it when I did my test drive a couple of weeks ago. It looked like the OS was a version behind, so I'll get them to update that if I pull the trigger.

One weird thing -- the nag screen appeared and disappeared almost immediately. I know there's a hack to make it do that, but I thought it was strange that it just did it by itself.

No - after I flashed the firmwire all lags - disappeared. Retains, after I restart car. Issue - non-issue. When test driving check firmwire version. Should end with 758 or 760.

YES

Lots of gossip - as of now - nada. Confused - why Android Auto when above 2 questions are iPod/iPhone. Apple Carplay - Nada.
