After drive my dad's new X5, my cx5 is feel like driving a tractor on the road

hek8560, have you tried test driving the 2016 model yet? I feel like there is a good difference between my mom's 2014 CX-5 GT and my 2016 GT as far as noise.

And while I have no personal experience with BMW (though my dad does and swears he will never own another one), I do listen to a ton of automotive podcasts like Autoblog, Autoweek, Smoking Tire, and a ton more, and have heard many times about the repair and maintenance costs of modern BMW. I have also heard on there multiple times that the only way they would drive a BMW is a short lease so they could turn it back in before having to pay for problems. Have heard the same about VWs as well.

I may have to test drive a '16+ to check on noise... I do have to wonder how road surface & tires plays into overall noise concerns? I know where I live one can have almost Cadillac silence to noticeable but IMO unobjectionable noise based on where I am driving.

From my experience, you will put the purchase price of a CX5 into the BMW for repairs before you hit 60,000 miles

Sorry to hear that. I have 115,000 flawless miles on my 5 year old 328. Best car I have owned to date.

i am selling my cx-5 also, i rode a suzuki gsxr 1000 the other day and i am falling in love with it. The fact that i have to open and close a door on my mazda to sit on the seat is very irritating. Also when it rains i dont get wet like i did on the suzuki, unacceptable. The biggest problem with the mazda actually is no mater how hard i hit the gas i cant get the front end to come off the ground! (sorry, couldnt resist!)

hahaha nice !!

Owned E46 330I for 14 years and I hope that my CX-5 is reliable as BMW was.

Those 3 series are like that. I had a friend with an E46 M3, and it was ALWAYS broken. I had another friend with another 3 series, and it had 200k+ on it and narry a problem. That seems to be a trend with the BMW owners I know. The car is either the biggest pile ever, or a flawless example of boring reliability. There is no "in the middle".

I know that dude, I said it two different price car. I don't like BMWs before I ride it, now I falling in love it.

I've also driven an X5 for over 1 year. No doubt the X5 is quieter, faster and a different beast but you can BUY THREE CX5s for the price of one X5. A loaded BMW X5 with AWD is pushing $80k+

My BMW X5 was a turbo and it was blowing oil mist all over the engine bay.

The Mazda and BMW are not in the same field of comparison. It's like comparing a Mazda6 with a BMW 7 series.

I just don't get these comparisons (dunno)

My wife thinks I am anal about road noise and wanting a quiet cabin. My last car was a 2001 ford ranger, so I was really sick of road noise, and if you read the thread about sound deadening, i posted a lot about how loud my wifes 2010 Mazda3 is.

It is like night and day in the new CX-5. Now we drive it everywhere. Out to dinner or shoping or taking the dog to a hiking trail or what ever. She likes the quieter ride now too.

Also, the roads around me are pretty crappy, and they just started paving a strech of highway I drive everyday. I got to drive about 5 miles of brand new asphault this morning for the first time, and i could not stop thinking the whole time about how amazing it was. So smooth and quiet. Only sound was wind noise (was doing 65 and was windy out), but little to no noise from tires.
As soon as I hit the old section it was back to usual sound, which I realized still wasn't bad overall.

I have 2015 cx-5, maybe 2016 is better. One main thing I really dislike is the engine sound when the car engine is cold. When engine is hot, the sound will be gone. BMW offer four years free maintenance include tires as long as it won't break down during 7 years, there are no really big problem.

Why do you think they offer "free maintenance"?

The truth and reality is there is NO SUCH THING as "free maintenance". The cost of the maintenance is added to the cost of the vehicle when you buy it. Simple marketing plan.

So when you put down $80k on the BMW X5 you paid for the once as year oil change (10k mile intervals). Then they change the cabin filter and air filter. Big deal. That's $50 worth of parts.

So whenever a manufacturer offers "free maintenance" it's a marketing scam. The buyer of the vehicle pays for those costs when they buy the vehicle.

Well, my dad only paid 62k for the Xdrive 35i V6 TURBO, it is a very cheap price for this kind car. I am not from USA, in my home country, this car cost 40k more for the same model. He don't really care about maintenance or something break down. He also care about comfort and brand, not everybody care about little thing. I am still a student, cx-5 fits me better.

BMW has only in-line 6, they never have a V6. X5 XDrive35i AWD has 300hp 3.0L in-line 6 turbo and 8-speed automatic. Price for 2016 X5 XDrive35i starts at $57,000 MSRP. The Premium Package adds another $2,550 MSRP.

I am amused at how anyone who would buy a newer (less than 3 year old vehicle) can judge someone for buying a nicer vehicle than they bought, and use financial competence or "value" as the measuring stick.

Then you had a bad BMW. I've had 4 BMW's and everyone went over 100,000 miles before I had to start fixing things. My current 2005 BMW 545i has 94,000 miles and is like new. Don't get me wrong, they can cost an arm and leg if you don't repair yourself, but are great cars and a blast to drive. Most BMW repairs are oil leaks. The engines run and run and run.

I still love my CX-5 and I'm sure it will serve me well for many years. You can't compare them at all. I plan on replacing the 545i, when the time comes, with a cx-3. Have to be practical with a little on in the house now. Need to save the pennies.

Wait until the 2017 Mazda CX9 is released. It will be the FLAGSHIP vehicle for Mazda. With 310 FT.LBS of toque and 250HP and a high-end interior with sound reducing techniques.

According to Consumer Reports magazine, the BMW X5's reliability (overall) is rated "Worse than average". The following model years are rated "MUCH WORSE THAN AVERAGE":
2011
2012
2014
with common problem areas being:
Fuel system
Electronics
Power systems
Noise/leaks

Apparently, the folks who buy BMWs either don't drive very often, like to visit the dealerships, or are more concerned with brand names, regardless of whether the vehicle is really worth what it costs.
The Mazda CX5, when compared to the X5:
Handles better (much lighter)
Has superior steering feel
If far more reliable, especially when it comes to electronics
Gets superior fuel mileage

The BMW X5:
Makes you feel that you are wealthy
Like iPhones, are overpriced status symbols
Are quieter (but not any more quiet than a Chevy traverse)
Get pummeled when it comes time to sell as a used vehicle
Are faster but use up far more fuel
Used to be the ultimate driving machines

If you know all or most of these things and you still buy a BMW, then don't blame anyone but yourself when that instrument cluster goes haywire and you have to set up yet another service date.
