My dad give me his new x5 for a day to L.A, I kind like it now. I know they are different price car, but after going back my cx-5, I can't stand the engine noise, and rattle noise anymore. The transmission so frustrated, and the noise drive me crazy. Now, I am thinking about selling it for a better quieter car. Even my friends Honda accord ride quieter and shift smoother than cx-5, maybe they don't have that kind direct feeling of transmission, but I don't think that is bad. Last, no offense to all cx-5 lover, I guess this might be my last post on this forum, so I just want to share my idea.
After drive my dad's new X5, my cx5 is feel like driving a tractor on the road

Price points alone...you get what you pay for. I think for its class, the CX-5 is superior to its competitors. You should try the RAV-4. It's garbage compared to the CX5

I do drive my wife's 2014 Accord Sport occasionally. I wouldn't say it's quieter than my 2016 CX-5. The CVT is smooth, but a little too smooth for my taste. Also, it suffers a delay when stepping on the pedal, you can feel it most obvious when starting from stop. But those are details that you have to drive daily in order to know, so make sure you test drive thoroughly whatever the new car you're getting.
I've never driven a Mazda before this CX-5, but I now understand there's a reason why Mazda has a small market share, but at the same time has a consistent fan base. Not everyone is into the Mazda fun spirit of driving and handling, but if you're into it, all issues become minor
From how you prefer the Accord over the CX-5, I guess you might enjoy luxury/comfort cars more.

Mazda could easily make the CX-5 a closer competitor to the X5. But then they would have to charge more. A lot more. And let's face it, this CX-5/Rav-4/CRV category is about "reasonable" cost alternatives. Based on that, I think Mazda is doing a pretty good job with the CX-5.
My MX-5 isn't a 911. The CX-5 isn't an X5. But my bank account is intact and I still manage to put a smile on my face. You get what you pay for in the car game (more or less). Not being rich, I'm glad we have some decent choices around the 30 grand mark.

I am selling my CX-5 also, I rode a SUZUKI GSXR 1000 the other day and I am falling in love with it. The fact that I have to open and close a door on my mazda to sit on the seat is very irritating. Also when it rains I dont get wet like I did on the Suzuki, unacceptable. The biggest problem with the mazda actually is no mater how hard I hit the gas I cant get the front end to come off the ground! (sorry, couldnt resist!)

I had the chance to drive a Ferrari 458 last fall of Road America. Wow, I can't believe how much nicer that car is then my CX-5! When you step on the gas the just goes and goes and goes and goes, seems like it would never stop. Handles like a dream and the dual clutch 7-speed...ahhhh. I mean seriously, I can't believe how slow the CX-5 was after driving the 458, I'm in love with that car!!!
The comparison of the CX-5 to a BMW X5 is just ridiculous. The X5 is a 60-70K vehicle once well equipped, so almost twice the price of the CX-5. Yes it's a bigger vehicle but it's also a lot more expensive and the cost shows in the build quality.

That's funny. Outside of services, which were free for the first 4 year years, I've never had an issue. (Knock on wood)
Of course I did my research and avoided the 335 (HPFP issues), and went for the 328 loaded.

How are BMWs within last 5 years holding up at 100-150K miles?
Off the top of my head.... thought up through late 80's fairly bullet-proof for reliability...but not so much after that.
I have an aversion to European cars for that fact alone....even if the driving dynamics are awesome.

I feel like there is some exaggeration with this post. While I've never driven an X5, I'm willing to bet the cx5 is not that much worse than the X5 in the handling department. I can understand the lack of quietness in the cx5, but I don't buy the cx5 now feeling like a "tractor". Think you're a little caught up in the luxury idea.
Owned E46 330I for 14 years and I hope that my CX-5 is reliable as BMW was.
I had to lookup where Gustavas was. One of my brother-in-laws was the schoolteacher in Edna Bay a ways to your south a few years back. These days he resides up in Barrow but I think he will be back in the lower 48 this year. Sounds like AK state budget has some challenges.
I was with the North Slope Borough Search & Rescue for years in Barrow, no budget problems up there. I think the state might look at some form of tax to right the ship, now we pay no income or sales tax which is nice but times are a changing .... not all so great up here for health insurance, we had 7 companies 2 years ago, 5 left the state, so its just down to 2. $1450/month for a 55 year old to buy his own insurance, but if you want a cheaper premium and get a policy with a $6000 deductible, its only $1100 .... nuts!
