Does Adaptive Cruise Control brake when car ahead has stopped?

My 2016 CX-5 slows down and cancels the cruise control? Is this what's supposed to happen? I've read that some cars will allow you to stop and go.

Yes I did but didn't see where that issue was referenced. Do you?

That feature was not available in 2012 when I bought my CX-5 but I would be surprised if such a feature was not well documented (as to how to use it and how it reacts to various situations) in the Owners Manual. Almost always such a feature will be indexed under the name the manufacturer has given it.

It's not full speed adaptive so sounds like it is operating similar to my Infiniti's and will cancel CC once object detection occurs and speed drops below the minimum cruise control speed. On my car that is 25 MPH but I think it is 19 or 20 MPH on the Mazda.

If you have city Break assist , Does anyone know if the hardware ?

Reading the manual, it looks like it cancels it self if you have to slow down below 19 MPH and it specifically mentions that you shouldn't use it in stop and go scenarios.

Do both braking system use the same hardware or IS it just a software upgrade?
MY 2016 has the 20 and under city brake assist, I would now prefer to have both.

By both, I assume you mean activsense versus smart city? I think activsense builds on smart city support. They both use the radar behind the mazda logo, but activsense adds the laser on the top of the windshield. I could be wrong.

The SCBS sensor on my '15 is in the rear view mirror area where the wiper rain sensor is located.

It looks like both smart city breaking and smart breaking use a combination of sensors in in the front (behind mazda logo and top of windshield). Smart breaking uses the addition of a camera in the windshield on activsense models.

I have the I-ActiveSense package with SBS. When a car cut me off while I have the cruise control set the car does brake for me. I haven't read the entire manual however I wonder if SBS will still work when cruise control is off.

SCBS and SBS are safety features, and both work (if equipped on your car) regardless of whether cruise control is on or not. The Adaptive Cruise Control is a convenience feature, not an emergency brake system, even though they share certain similarities.

I too would like to know if all hardware is in place as Rickgs has asked here. I have a 2016 with SCBS. Is activesense just a software upgrade then?

It's more than software. The cruise control sensor is in the Mazda emblem. Do you have this shiny version of Mazda emblem?

Steering wheel should have distance controls as well. Button is to the left of the SET button on the right part of steering wheel.

SCBS laser is up by the rear view mirror and cruise and SBS utilize the grille emblem sensor.

Edit: Looking at Mazda 6 sensor is priced at over $1K

Thanks for the clarification. I knew I didn't have the distance controls on the steering column. I also do NOT have the solid emblem as shown above. Therefore, there is more hardware involved.

Can anyone report if they have added components of the Activsense package? I would like adaptive cruise control which would require the grill sensor as well as controls on the steering wheel on the right side. I understand it might be cost prohibitive but I'm just looking to see if it is possible and if anyone on this forum has attempted the upgrade.

To be honest.... I am sure someone will try it in a year or two with parts of wrecked CX-5s but doubt you will see anyone try it soon. IMO... this is one of those options you order with the car or replace it with one that does. There may be programming changes the consumer doesn't even have access to even if you got all the parts squared away.
