Looks like we get the 2.0 skyactive and all are 6 speeds. The reveal did suck Mark, not very well done at all. Car certainly looks interesting. Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh. 150hp with a 2200 lb curb weight, not too shabby.

Finally my mom got the call to say they have a room for my dad. Good day and bad day at the same time. He goes in Monday, my brother an.d I are going with Mom to get him settled and help her out.

i really like the styling, lowered weight, not getting bigger like every other car...i really haven't heard anything definitive about the HP/torque? i guess if it's skyactive it's one of two? turbo the 1.5???

There was not a single hint or indication of any turbocharger hardware / comment / interview from the reveal. There was also not single detail about the powertrain.

Mazda's Facebook page confirmed 100kg lighter, or 220lbs. 2480lbs on the lightest NC, making it a 2260lb ND.

However...
There is confirmation in the UK and Japan that they will be getting 2 engine options, a 1.5L that is good for somewhere around 130-140hp, and a 2.0L engine that is good for somewhere around 170-180hp.

Both are SkyActive engines, Mazda isn't doing any other type of engines. The whole SkyActive name applies to more than just engines too, so the entire car is "SkyActive".

There is also a comment from one of the engineers that "the US wouldn't accept a lower output engine", so either we will get both options too, or all options will be the 2.0L

I assume that the 100kg lighter comment is comparing the lightest NC variant to the lightest ND variant, which would mean that the 100kg lighter number applies to the 1.5L engine. Looking at the CX-5 2.0L vs 2.5L, there is 103lbs of difference, which accounts for the moonroof and other features too, so call it maybe a 50lb weight gain for that extra half liter. So the 2.0L should be around 2310lbs, giving it a power to weight somewhere around 12.5lbs per hp, vs 14.8 for the current NC. Noticeably faster with just peak numbers, but all the low end torque increase from the high compression SkyActive engine will make it even faster than the peak numbers suggest.

I'm excited. It may have bumped the Boxster from the top spot on my 'want' list. Pending an actual drive.

hope all goes well! tough decision man!

Yes it is but's really for Mom's health we are moving him to a home. She's exhausted and can't handle him any more. He needs more care than she can manage. She needs a break and a change. It won't be easy for her to leave him there Monday.

(wavey) Cheo and Sean!

Mahk, it looks like a Caddy to me in that small pic. Awesome about the shifter! I need the silver button with spring but would take the entire knob if you wanted me too. Just let me know a price.

Bruce, sad to hear and touch decision but it will be better for both your mom and dad. We went through the same thing with Tamz grandmother a few years ago.

lol oh shutup.

THanks Guys, getting ready to drive in this am.

Another autox yesterday, but couldn't do any better than 8th in class. Was finding more time at the end of the day but ran out of runs.

Sean! New ND for you? How's the fam?

I wouldn't object to a preowned one in a few years. I most assuredly like the style so far. The proof will be in the driving dynamics though. The NC's were too soft from the factory for me. It's gotta have a little more of a raw feeling like the NA for me to pick one up :)

Fam is ok.. My daughter continues to be gigantic. The wife is getting yet another degree, so I'm busier than dunkin donuts on free iced coffee day.

I'm loving it. If it has the 2.0L SkyG engine that was in my rented CX-5 a few months back, it will be an absolute blast.

so, you liked the cx5 2.0? robin is getting one and i'm telling her to get the 2.5? all the reviews say it so lackluster a motor?

Morning all. Got Dad settled yesterday and mom is doing fine.

Need to start going thru the rig and getting things ready.
