Hi!

Protege5 with check engine light on due to Bank1 lower than treshold but no more consumption than before. I kept it like that for more than 2 years before I decided to try the Non Fowler Trick. The check engine went off. Then, it started to drink like crazy. I've tried to reduce the Non Fowler extension, still, the same problem and the check engine stayed off. I completely removed the Non Fowler; The check engine came back (I was almost happy) but after a quarter of a tank and 65 klits I have to say the problem is there more than ever.

Is someone has an idea what has been going on and how to solve it in the cheepest way? (Note I had to use a bit the torch to unscrew the sensor... The one after the horizotal catalyst). My catalyst is jammed I'm pretty sure cause 2 years ago I had random missfires.

Is a cheep catback could solve this?

Thx!

We'll for starters that sensor does absolutely nothing as far as gas mileage, it simply monitors the pre cat. The first o2 sensor is what controls fuel trim

To fix the precat get a after market header to delete it.

You are definitely having a different problem, possibly a fuel leak that's getting worse

This is probably a good place to start looking for problems - a restricted exhaust will affect your performance and fuel mileage. If your catalytic converter is working properly it will have higher outlet temperatures than inlet temps - your can measure the temps at the converter inlet and outlet pipes with a $25 laser thermometer from Harbor Freight.
