The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Just got the following e mail from Tom Badger of i-Moto Racing

Marlon,

Your Stage2 xFlex wishbone mount in black has arrived. We will bring it to Mid-Ohio for install. Thanks for all you do for the Mazda community and i-Moto Racing.

I got a question for the MS3 guys. I'm about to purchase a FMIC because the stock TMIC heat soaks like a b**** (especially on the track). I'm trying to determine if I need to upgrade my HPFP internals after doing the FMIC. I currently have a SRI, Turbo Inlet Pipe, and Hypertech. Everything else power-wise is stock and will remain stock. I'm not planning on a turbo upgrade or downpipe either.

So, that brings me to the question of...do I absolutely need to upgrade my HPFP internals if I get a FMIC? The internals aren't cheap unfortunately.

I would upgrade em. Before i installed my internals, i was seeing pressure drop under 1600psi under boost with upgraded top mount, stock tip, and cp-e cai. The aftermarket tmic flowed well enough to see boost as high as 19-21psi on a cobb stage 1 map. Fuel fressure was dropping after 16psi and that map only targeted 16.5 psi. Jake helped me out and lowered wgdc to get it safe to drive until i got my internals in.

I would say do that before the FMIC, that might have been one of my issues after the downpipe. I replaced the whole pump, didn't have a good experience with Fez when we did his internals.

New toy!!

I would get pump internals honestly. If you need help with the install let me know I would be glad to help.

Thanks for the advice guys. Is the install a PITA? Also, what internals do you guys suggest? I wish these things were cheaper haha

i'm getting new tires soon here, does anyone have anything to say about Dunlop's Direzza DZ-101 or BF Goodrich G-force...'s (there's like 3 or 4 different "g-force" types... but they all seem to get the same reviews so i *assume they're all created somewhat equal)
-I'm looking for something somewhat cheap with handling in mind. They'll probably never see an auto-x event (*probably), but i like something sporty that's going to last near 30,000 miles and will fit on my stock 16x6's.
I've got some sort of Kumo 195x50x16's on my car right now, but it looks like i'm going to have to get 195x55x16's or 205x45x16's if i want Direzza's or G-force.......'s. Not too many options in the stock size.

Anyone protege people got any suggestions for new tires?

I got no where near 30k miles with my BFG G-force tires on my protege, not even 30k KM. I have Continental's on the Focus and have nothing but good things to say about them so far after 20k KM.

I loved my yokohama avid envigor all seasons. stay away from fusion anything ;) theyre s***, especially in the wet

Continental Extreme Contact DW in 205-50-16. $336 for 4 from TR. Marlon can get you an $80 discount. So $256 + shipping, mounting and balancing. Best deal you're going to find for what you're looking for right there.

The contis were lasting pretty well on the smart car. 32k and fronts were just getting worn down to where rain was a little bit of a problem (but not horrible). And that included an auto cross on some seriously abrasive pavement, and 22k of my hard driving. They weren't horrible as far as grip, either. 400 tread wear.

I have the DZ 101s on the MSM, so far they're fine when its dry but I haven't pushed them that much. The conti's DW are better in the wet though, got a bit sideways not even trying. They were pretty cheap though, so I can't complain.

I loved my Parada spec-2, but they're hard to find.
