What have you done to your MS3 today?

i need to get this sorted out soon. before i put a battery box, the ecu and cai and tip back together.
Looking for a pretty stiff durometer unit that can take abuse. The medevil one you have might work for me, not sure.

Looks like the only two options you have for shank supported TM are the cp-e and sure mounts. The TRZ, JBR and SU mounts are the middle style. Medieval hasn't been in business for a while now.
 
PG has the TRZ rear motor mount and transmission mount.

I have all 3 jbr mounts and my motor does not move

I do have massaging seats and quite the rattle symphony tho

In other news dcr vvt, new timing chain and tensioners as well as a thorough head cleaning have been completed today

Big turbo goes in next week

Although I personally prefer the shank supported design, I think you would be happy if you decide to go with the JBR unit. I've questioned his design ( on the passenger side mount) and he's defended it in a thoughtful and timely manner. He's a real asset to our community.

I liken the thread versus shank support designs to holding yourself up with one hand on a vertical pole or two hands on a horizontal pole (ala pull ups). I know there's no real engineering behind it, just my personal opinion and common sense. So really it's a personal choice and opinion.

The biggest downside to shank supported is the difficulty of installation. There's not much room in there and you have to get the bolt to go through both the top and bottom plates while they are in there. I remember it being a bit of a problem when installing mine and I did it on a lift. Another downside could be that if the fit of the parts is not tight enough, the bolt might shear between the two brackets arms. Please refer to the photo of the sure unit:

BTW, the sure unit and the cp-e one look to be a very similar design in that the tee pee or lower bracket is made of 2 cnc machined pieces bolted together. I know that early versions of the cp-e had failure in the coupling of the 2 pieces, not sure if that was user error or design error.

The CP-e failures were due to people not running loctite on the allen head screws/bolts (whatever you want to call them) that held the two lower pieces together. The screws would vibrate loose and fall out. It is now stressed to use loctite and CP-e now supplies a thin plate that stops the bolts from backing out entirely.

I've installed TRZ, CP-e and JBR mounts on a few cars with CP-e on mine. The tranny mounts are always the 'interesting' ones, TRZ is pretty much fool proof, JBR is nice and CP-e can be a pain, the failures are always in the back of your mind (never had an issue with mine) and the CP-e kit requires you remove the stud closest to the cabin. Once out the rubber bushings makes it difficult to put the new screw in straight. On an aluminium tranny case stripping the threads is a bit of a concern.

Rotus, i had to envision your explanation for a little while. An engineering question it is. How the load is distributed i suppose. I used to have lengthy discussions about this stuff years ago with mechanical engineers i would work with.
But each method may be effective as long as they are designed well enough.

I'm gonna continue my research. But you have been helpful for sure.
But given me more to think on. Thats good.

Maybe i can get 8.5 to help me do the install and My Tensioner this summer ?

I did scrub down the stock exhaust mani while it was out . Mine was pretty clean.
Thats what you get running ignition advanced and lean on fuel !!

well the car is back, running lean as s***, idk if its cuz the head is all shiny again or what

in any case it goes back under the knife on wednesday

depending how it goes today i may or may not be driving it up, which means i gotta ride shotgun with a girl......ew
 
Gonna get a tune from a local speed owner, most likely 93 but may even get a e85 for s**** and giggles. Tune for 3-port to run my newly acquired grimmspeed ebcs
