That's kind of pricey for Mid-Ohio. Any idea what kind of track time you would be getting?

I know they are keeping the event to 50 people so everyone gets enough track time. The previous events I've done started around 9/10, break for lunch, then back out until 5/6pm. Each session is 20 minutes (edit), then the next run group. Sometimes there are too few people for the novice group so they combine them into intermediate and everyone gets even MORE track time with only two groups. Hope that answers your question!
NASA's HPDE event in April is $209 for a Friday, $359 for sat/sun.
I guess if you already know people within a group it may be more fun to go with them.. Which is why I do events with AutoInterests. I know I won't be on track with a bunch of people who I don't know/their driving style/their cars. If that makes any sense.

The events I do every year with PCA are: NNJR PCA $350 for 3 days. 4/5 - 30 minute sessions per day. NOR PCA $500 for 3 days - usually 4 - 25 minute sessions Sat/Sun. Friday is an open lapping day for advanced drivers. So that's what I was using as a comparison. I don't think NASA is particularly a good deal either compared to the other options out there.
I am interested in the Auto Interests day though. Sounds like you would get 6-7 - 20 minute sessions in which would be pretty awesome.

With NASA last time I got 4 runs on Friday, so if this is anything like TorquedRacing, you'll get more than that. My time table has changed after buying the MSP, but I think I can make it. I might pre-pay next week.
Is there any way to tell how many people have signed up and is there a cap off on the number of cars to register? I guessing I would enter as a novice since I have no official track time and only autoX time?
That's always been my fear but I decided f-it and when I get my new car it will be going to the track.
I'm supposed to get my tax return Friday... Might have to give this a shot.
There aren't any modifications required when it comes to HPDEs. As long as the maintenance is up to date (plenty of brake pad, recently changed fluids, oil, brake, etc.) you should be good to go. In all the days I've done, the only people I've ever seen wreck their car have been in the advanced run groups. I still remember my first couple of sessions and I thought I was going so fast at the time, but when I look back at it, I was so far within the capabilities of my car it is almost laughable to think that something bad would've happened!
All that said, I completely understand not having another car to drive if something did happen so I don't blame you for not wanting to come out!
I can't find any way to see how many people are signed up. It looks like they are only taking the initial $100 deposit and if they don't get 50 people putting down deposits by the 15th the event won't even happen.
With no track time at all I would start as a novice if I were you. You can always move up into a different group, but it's better to start lower and not get overwhelmed by people trying to go faster than you are comfortable with. That's usually when bad things happen. Coming from lots of autocross experience, driving on the track will be pretty easy for you. The speeds are higher but everything comes at you much more slowly than autocross so it's easier to pick the correct line as you have more time to think about it.

Jason tries to get everyone as much track time as possible. His goal isn't to make money (he doesn't always!) he just wants people to have fun/find new friends who are into the same things. We have people come up the events from Michigan and Indiana to name a few states. That's why he was trying for 50 people--enough to cover the cost but not too many to affect track time. He said they are at only around 10 so far but got most of the announcements out yesterday... they are not maxed at 50 - but will cap at 65, just need 50 committed to lock it in. If there is that much interest he said he would look at adding another day to the schedule.
Taters, all of my cars are slow and sub 100hp. And all of them have been a blast on the track. You don't need to run flat out, it's a day to learn your car and have fun no one will be pushing you or passing you without YOU telling them to. You can always come ride along or spectate if you don't want to take your car on track.
If you haven't been on track, I would say novice is the correct run group.

I took a risk with the 3, nothing ever happened. I only saw 1 instructor wreck his mustang at mid ohio when it was raining, and 1 guy wreck his brand new Porsche GT3 at Nelsons.. he didn't seem to mind

I may never have the money to be able to write it off, but I'll always have the regret of not going on the track.
If you know your limits and drive within them you'll be fine for sure. I saw someone wreck their brand new Z06 in the rain at Watkins Glen. (That baby blue Armco doesn't look good on the side of a black Corvette).
And this little bit of stupid happened in front of me the same weekend:

And at Nelson Ledges someone went off in the carousel and rolled their Boxster S. I've done almost 40 track days and those are the only 3 incidents that I've seen where a car was damaged.

I would totally be into this if it wasn't on a Monday. Also that HPDE insurance looks like a good idea, especially if I end up with a new MS3 for track days this year.
