Odd rotation noise after axle install.

Hey all, we just recently dropped my car with Tein S-tech's and replaced all struts, but had to replace the driver's side spindle knuckle and also a new axle. After 20 days of wrong parts being ordered and complications I finally got fed up 98% from being completed and had her towed to a shop so they could pop the axle in. I got her back and something isn't right. There's a low rumble, almost like off-road tires or a rotation noise coming from the same side the work was done on. No play in the bearing, no popping or clicking, everything seems to be in place and tight. The car doesn't really drive any different at all besides a very minimal vibration due to the rotation noise. Drives straight, had them do an alignment also. The sound isn't altered by engine speed or the transmission; directly linked to vehicle speed after 25mph or so. At this point I'm a little stumped on what it could be. (eyeballs)

if its dependent on road speed, and not engine speed, it sounds like a bearing got buggered. the hub bearing can be shot and still have no play in it.

Try going about 45 and turning left and right I'd it gets worse one way and disappears the other it's a wheel bearing. Mine did the same thing you're experiencing

Been trying that out as well, at different speeds and intensities I'd rip the wheel right or left. Very slight, if any difference at all. I may take it back and see if they forgot to tighten something when they did the axle install.

I'm having the same problem but on the passenger side of my msp. New axle, new Mazda wheel bearing all torqued to 150 ft-lbs. i had an alignment and my new tokicos are less than 2000 miles old too. i have a droaning sound that sounds like I'm on the Tarmac accelerating for takeoff.

The faster I go the louder it gets. Non exsistant until about 18-20 mph and is obnoxiously loud at 40+ mph. Volume reduces as a brake or decelerate and again virtually goes away around 18-25 mph. It's weird.

It sounds nothing like the bad, seized bearing I just replaced. And didn't make noise until after the axle replacement.

I know a bad bearing can have all sorts of different sounds, maybe they replaced your bearing with a defective one. I'm almost positive mine is the bearing though, I have a feeling the yard I got the spindle from sent me one with a bad bearing... Got a refund for it, but taking it back to the shop next week to get everything checked out. It's been getting pretty bad, almost grinding when the wheel is positioned left. So we'll see how it goes.

Any word on your situation? Did you find the culprit?
