Wow I didn't realize 20Ds were so cheap. If i didn't have a bunch of nikon glass/flashes...

The shutters are surprisingly durable, so despite them being an old camera, they still typically have a lot of life in them. It lacks some features of the newer bodies, and definitely doesn't handle high ISO like they do, but for a starter body its really hard to go wrong. The only reason I can see going for the Rebel series over it is if you like new stuff over used, or you want to shoot video with it. Having the rear dial is great for making fast changes to settings, and the Professional metal body feel SO much better in your hand than the plastic. I really dislike shooting with my friends XSi.
 
Agreed completely, I could not stomach the rebels. I super liked the 20D back in the day, but they were rather pricey when I started...not that I am unhappy with my nikon gear.
