10,000 rpm heads look like this..

JKPgt96

10k RPM Probe
:
'95 Probe GT
For those of you who don't know, I am building a 10000+ rpm n/a KL. Well after much delay I got my heads back today.

The run down is

Ferrea Competition Plus Valves
Interprep Tuning Valve Springs
RD Valve Springs Chromoly Retainers
Line Honed cam journals
KLg4 Cam end cap, for use with a cam sensor (to be used for Megasquirt 3/Sequential Injection/MS3x)

MMS Solid Lash Adjusters/Solid Lifter Conversion
Custom 250 duration @ .050, .405 lift Cams

Extensive Port Work
New valve job
Milled Heads
Cut back valve guides
etc..

The heads are done, and as promised I am putting up pics of them. All of the pics are on my camera, so I cannot put them up until tonight. But I was sent one of the heads on the flow bench by the shop that did the flowing/porting on them.

Those pics make me miss my mx6. Looks sick man. I can't wait to hear that N/A KL revving high! I love lots of cars but the KL just has such a unique sound. I wish I could make my 3 sound like that.

Haha..no thanks, I have my own chassis for this. Actually the heads will likely have to come back apart one more time. When the cams come around they will likely hit the lifter gallies, so the gallies will have to be ground down some, so the cams can clear the head! lol...but we will see once the cams arrive.

if you ever decide to sell those beasts, let me know ;)

Haha..hopefully not! And if I do, I hope I have something better to replace them with, lol.

Not yet, I am currently in Chicago for work. Though I will be home tomorrow. Should have an update end of the week or next week.

how much of a hp boost do you think your gonna get with the upgrades uve done to the KL? what car are you going to drop it in?

I honestly am not sure what the heads alone will net me. I am working on getting a stock set flow benched for comparison purposes.

Since this is something that has not been done in a street car the only things I have to compare to are Leo's 323, and Gerry at PRM's race probe. I have tried to address the issues or 'things I would do differently' that Leo and Gerry have told me when talking with them.

Leo did 270whp on stock ZE heads, with HLAs, Interprep 280s, shorty primaries..My setup will have about the same compression (he is around 13:1, I am just over 12:1), same ITBs, lightweight SLAs, more lift/duration, worked heads, custom longtubes, vacuum pump...so..we will see..I know Leo is working on a totally new setup, which will not be within my reach as a streetable car.

I am trying to do what I can, but still in a street car..the two aforementioned cars are both race cars..This build is going into my newly acquired Sierra Mist Blue '95 Probe GT. (which is sub 2600lbs without me in it, full interior)

i wanna hear this aha

Likewise, lol.

Ok..I will be dropping by the shop to pickup the heads this week, finally. Been crazy busy, as has the shop.

I got the gasket for the throttles that I am planning on using on friday and compared it to the KL heads/gasket. It is surprisingly close, so I am purchasing a set of throttles this week to go on the heads so I can continue with the motor build.

I have had the heads now for about two months. I found that I have to replace the head gasket on the rear head of the '95, that coupled with getting the '96 ready to be sold has slowed progress a bit. I have to replace the head gasket then the 95 will be headed to a shop to have the oil pump mount and plumbing taken care of. Once the pump is mounted I can order the drive gear and have the bottom end balanced.

I have picked up a NGK Powerdex Wideband setup, another Aeromotive AFPR kit, OEM Euro front indicators, and a couple other things. The MS3/MS3x is being assembled as we speak along with the harness for the COP conversion. That will not go on until the car is back from the shop with the oiling setup ready to go.

The ITB setup is nearly done, and will go on with the COP/MS3 stuff. I am hoping this week for some warmer weather so that I can get out and pull the rear head off and get the gasket changed out. As soon as that is done the car is headed to the shop. I just have not had time to get it done with the rush to get the '96 ready to sell.
