msp or jetta 1.8t??

Carl i was not comparing lbs of boost by anymeans. They are two different animals. I was just saying that it was fun at that range as a point. Always so negative. Not like the stock VW turbos are effective either?

wasn't trying to be negative, just pointing out the facts of it. I agree with your whole post.

Frankly, I wouldn't go either and go with a newer car of some sort. Either one is at best 6 or 7 years old at this point. Lots have had the potential of someone modding it like crazy and then returning it to stock to sell. I'd go with something newer and low mileage.

Budget as a concern, I don't know that I'd disagree. But as far as bang for your buck, both cars have their places in the right (and similar) price range. The jetta offers trim options way beyond the protege, but they come at a cost too. Like any apples to oranges comparison it really matters on what you're interested in as an end goal, and what you have to invest in it.

im still in college(19Years old) and yeah i would juts want something a little faster till im done with school and start working for real...might be long if i go to university...but still. my p5 has rust in both rear wheel well and on the hood and front shock tower. I HATE it! i would buy coilover if i kept the p5, but it would be worth half of the car....so i dont know.

i will look at it.

Fun story, when i was in the jetta, we went to a stop and a really nice titanium grey msp came next to us. It was really low on black 17inch tenzo with a fmic. I made myself the comment that it looked so much better haha.

MSP's are a niche car......so if you want to be in a niche group and have a car that handles amazing.....then get the msp. I have had alot of cars but the MSP is great out of the box, just be careful how much power you run through it. The only VW's that I have driven have been ok, but nothing worth going crazy about. If your getting a german car, at least get awd S4 or A4. Good luck on your journey

might be an option, but like everybody here, i dont like my car to look like s*** :)

just becomes a question of what you want, and what your budget is. if you're in school and you have a reliable car, I'd suggest keeping it. coming out of school with fewer payments and debts makes the beginning of your real life MUCH easier. I realize I'm straying from the real topic here, but from personal experience the pride and joy of owning a nice car isn't always worth the stress it costs you.

if u have a p5 already take it to a body shop, have the rusted panels replaced, the car repainted, and get a msp turbo setup and msp front lip and then ull be golden. it will be like a new car. for a fraction of the price.

honestly, I'd bet that selling the P5 and buying an MSP would be cheaper than all that, depending on body condition. Body work like that isn't cheap, and a proper repaint would be 2 grand minimum. if someone had the ability to do all the work themselves and repaint using something like duplicolor's paint shop products it might be worth it, but the price for all that work and parts would stack up FAST.

a good condition msp can go anywhere from 6 to 10g's, depending on how may panels need replacement he could get a good paintjob including body work for 3000 and u could prolly squeeze a msp front lip in there too. then another grand or so for the turbo kit, hell u could even throw in a good fmic and turbo mani and still come out cheaper then buying and msp with a 7 year old paint job on it.

or he could sell his P5 for say, 4500? buy and MSP for 7500. thats pretty realistic I think, total investment added = 3 grand.

expecting a turbo kit and full paint job (regardless of panels repaired) on that budget sounds like a BIG stretch to me.

dude their is no way in hell he would get 4500 for an old rusted p5. im not stretching anything, i do paint work for a living. if someone told me they were gonna pay me 3000 to replace their quarter and paint their car back to factory color i would do it. ur missing my point. almost 8 year old car, old paint, not for sure of the cars past. or p5, custom turbo setup(hell he could prolly forge the motor for what he would lose getting the msp), fresh paint, and other nicknacks. almost the same car but better condition for only a fraction of the cost.

not even close to the same car for starters, own a REAL msp or own a WANNABE msp hmmm i choose A.... but in my opinion on the Topic of this Thread (not arguing if its cheaper to paint a p5 of buy an msp) i would say go with the msp, im 18 in college with one and i pay for it all on my own. Jettas are girl cars so if you get one of those you can sale your penis for parts cuz you wont need that anymore... IMO

ahah thanks guys. a lot of good suggestions. But yeah here in canada, my car is worth 3500 max. 7500-9000$ for a good speed(over that, its overpriced imo). I was thinking about having a shop repair my quarters. probably would cost me around 600$. that seems like a good option, but i would not go much further. im not investing in that p5.

And putting a turbo setup in my p5 is Not an option. im not ready for that kind of work. I think i know a lot about cars, but ive not been enough in the practical part.Tho, i think i could work on some problems the speed could have. Also, it seems to me that i would never be able to get all the parts to make it work...and owning a legit speed would be ideal for me. if around april i decide to look for real, i will make sure the car is in perfect conditions With NO mods.

ur sounding a bit like a douche. im a proud owner of a highly modded msp and i sometimes wish i had the luxuries of a wagon. i bought my car as soon as i started college, modded most of it while in college and now that im outa college i wish i didnt have the car payments because its breaking the bank cuase now that im outa college i have to pay for the college. stay payment free man. trust me.

im going for the 1.8t.. not only is it waaay more reliable.. its more comfortable to drive, easier to mod, funner to drive.. cheaper to get great hp numbers.. with the right suspention upgrade (which is a hell of a lot cheaper than a msp) it will easily out handle the msp.. hell a stage 1 apr chip will put it to 19 psi boost.. and a shade under 235 whp.. ive owned both.. and any day of the week id gladly go back to a 1.8t... need i say more.. but i do agree with a couple posts.. get a vr6 and boost it... trust me on that!!!!!!! i just sold a boosted vr6

Go to vwvortex.com and compare. A 1.8T makes way more power than a FSDE motor. If power is what your looking for. The MSP is good in turns..but thats it, Get the VW. If you want to compare beans for beans. Then look at the MSP vs. the GLI. Both cars are "special edition/modded" from the factory.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGZe5Pggv5c&feature=related <--- Jetta GLI with a few mods. ;)
